The National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced a couple of fines after Wednesday night’s chaotic game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers.

Rangers defenseman Adam Fox has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the collective bargaining agreement (CBA), for slashing Lightning forward Corey Perry. Additionally, Lightning forward Alex Killorn has also been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for slashing goaltender Igor Shesterkin. Each player was handed a two-minute minor penalty for the infractions. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The game started off chippy, to say the least. A fight between Patrick Maroon and Ben Harpur got things rolling. Killorn was fined for what appeared to be him spearing Shesterkin in the second period, leading to a goal that caused a major scrum around the net. Ryan Lindgren and Anthony Cirelli were also handed two minutes each for roughing on the ensuing play.

The Rangers won the game 6-3, with Fox picking up a pair of assists and Killorn notching his 25th goal of the season. The game ended with four fights and a combined 80 penalty minutes. Both teams met in last year’s Eastern Conference Final, and with both locked for the playoffs, they could meet once again in the later rounds. The Rangers sit third in the Metropolitan Division with a record of 46-21-11 and are the third team in the Metro to reach the 100-point mark. The Lightning are third in the Atlantic Division with a record of 45-27-6.
