After his first stint in North America with the Syracuse Crunch and the Orlando Solar Bears, Russian netminder Amir Miftakhov returned this summer, inking a one-year deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Last season turned out to be mixed for Ak Bars goalie Amir Miftakhov. After a strong first half of the regular season in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), during which the netminder ranked among the leaders in goaltending stats, came a less successful second half, followed by only two appearances in the playoffs out of a possible 13.
The Carolina Hurricanes have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with goaltender Amir Miftakhov, according to his agent, Dan Milstein. Miftakhov, 25, posted a 13-11-3 record, four shutouts, and a .927 save percentage in 30 games with his hometown KHL club Ak Bars Kazan during the 2024-25 regular season.
With veterans Dustin Tokarski and Spencer Martin set to be unrestricted free agents next month, the Hurricanes are expected to make a move to add some depth at the goaltending position.
NHL head coaches have to hire good assistants. They have to set an overarching philosophy, juggle lineup configurations, and do the kind of “man management” that is impossible to track statistically.
While all eyes were on Game 5 Tuesday night (April 29) for the Carolina Hurricanes’ Round 1 matchup against the New Jersey Devils, there was some early news Tuesday morning about a possible deal for the team.
