Mets' latest Kyle Tucker offer shows evolving market

The New York Mets had reportedly offered outfielder Kyle Tucker a short-term deal worth $50 million annually. That may have changed.

According to SNY analyst Jim Duquette, the Mets have likely added a fourth year to their offer. Duquette also noted that the deal would likely have at least one opt-out and that team owner Steve Cohen has become involved in contract talks.

The Mets are not the only team interested in Tucker. ESPN's Jesse Rogers reported that the Blue Jays have made a long-term offer on the table, although the dollar amount remains unknown. However, USA Today's Bob Nightengale said on Foul Territory that Tucker is waiting for the Blue Jays to increase the average annual value of the offer.

Kyle Tucker sweepstakes heating up between Mets, Blue Jays

Considered the best free agent in the 2025-26 class, Tucker had a solid showing in 2025. He produced a .266/.377/.464 batting line over his 597 plate appearances, hitting 22 homers and 25 doubles while stealing 25 bases. Those numbers were dragged down in the second half as Tucker dealt with a fractured right hand and a strained calf.

Tucker would fill an immediate need in New York, giving the Mets another dangerous bat in the lineup behind outfielder Juan Soto and shortstop Francisco Lindor. He would also change the narrative of what has been a disappointing offseason, where the Mets have yet to address their needs in the rotation or lineup.

By adding an additional year to their original offer, the Mets are seemingly aware that Tucker's market has shifted. While a four-year deal may not be enough, it is at least a starting point that could result in the Mets finally making a significant addition to the lineup this offseason.
