Chelsea have become known as a tough place to have long-term success as a manager. Elite managers such as Jose Mourinho and Carlo Ancelotti have been fired by the West London club. That managerial merry-go-round has continued under the Blueco ownership, and on January 1, Enzo Maresca became the latest manager to depart Chelsea. Club legend John Terry has reacted to the news of Maresca’s departure.

Enzo Maresca Departs Chelsea After Poor Recent Form

John Terry Gives Honest Reaction to Enzo Maresca’s Departure

After an impressive draw against Arsenal and a dominant win against Barcelona in the Champions League, all looked bright at Stamford Bridge. But recent form has seen the club falter badly, and following a recent outburst by Enzo Maresca after the win over Everton, speculation over his future has gone into overdrive, and this uncertainty only increased after the club’s recent draw against Bournemouth.

Fabrizio Romano and other journalists are reporting that Chelsea will be swift in their appointment of a new manager, with Liam Rosenior high on the shortlist.

Reacting to the departure of Maresca, Terry said:

“The manager Enzo Maresca has just been sacked by Chelsea. And to be honest, I’m completely shocked, but I didn’t see it coming. I know things of late haven’t been how we would have liked. You can clearly see or hear, or listen to the manager’s press conference to know there’s been tensions.

“I’ve had so many phone calls this morning after the news. Everyone expects me to know what’s happening. I haven’t got a clue what’s happening. I’m not involved in the first team; I’m in the academy side. I don’t know, but just my opinion from afar.

“There’s clearly tensions, from the manager and the owners, hence why they’ve come to this agreement or decision. It’s a big shock,” said Terry.

“Rewind 3,4 weeks ago, we were playing so well against Barcelona. The performance against Arsenal, how good it was. Fast forward four weeks to recent form, and recent performances clearly haven’t been good enough,” added Terry.

Still Plenty to Play for

Talking about the mentality needed from the players:

“Whoever comes in, it’s happened in the past, and we’ve managed to adapt and deal with it. And as players, you have to get on with it. And unfortunately, this is part of the process. So the players have to now step up, deal with it,” said the former Chelsea skipper.

Terry is correct, Chelsea have been here many times before but with the current disjointed squad out of form, with a team needing reinforcements in defence and attack, who should the new manager be, and can they come in and be the man BlueCo want and need?
