Just 48 hours after Sunderland’s historic victory in the Championship Playoff Final against Sheffield United, midfielder Jobe Bellingham could be on the verge of leaving the Black Cats. According to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie and the Sunderland Echo, Bellingham has flown to Germany to discuss a potential summer move.
Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie took to X to reveal the following. He said: “Jobe Bellingham is in Germany for talks with Eintracht Frankfurt. He continued, “Frankfurt are one of three German clubs interested in signing the 19-year-old this summer: Dortmund & Leipzig the other two. Dortmund have already held talks with Jobe in the UK earlier this month.
The 19-year-old brother of Real Madrid and England star Jude Bellingham has impressed this season, scoring five goals in 45 appearances and also due to his excellent progression since moving to Wearside from Birmingham City two years ago.
Sunderland will be back in the Premier League next season following their dramatic victory in the playoff final at Wembley and they will have hoped to have kept Bellingham for at least another season. However, the potential deal could be hard to resist for both the player and Sunderland.
Should a deal be agreed, it would mean the Black Cats would make a huge profit, and give them extra spending power ahead of their Premier League return. For Jobe, a move to Germany, especially Dortmund who are known to be excellent at nurturing young talent, including his brother Jude, could be hard to resist.
However, it is just as likely that he will stay at Sunderland for at least one more season now that promotion is secured and the strong bond he has developed with his teammates, the fans, and the city.
It’s obvious that there is a strong bond between Bellingham and the club which is why a move away at this stage is not certain. Following the final whistle at Wembley on Saturday, the midfielder said: “It means everything for everyone here. It’s all the club have been aiming to achieve for eight years. Every single player who’s come here has spoken about getting the club back to the Premier League.
“So many have failed, but I take a lot of pride in saying I was one of the players who helped this great club get back to where it belongs. I always believed. When you’ve got supporters like this, and a group of lads like that, you have to believe.”
