Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have released a patch for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, fixing a bug with official competitions that wreaked havoc on qualifying tournaments for the World Championships. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet update 1.3.1 is a relatively small update, and seemingly only fixes the competition issue.

According to Serebii, the bug came up during the Japanese and Korean qualifiers for National Championships and World Championships. It reportedly caused players to repeatedly match against the same opponents, and prevented them from backing out between battles.

Make-up qualifying events were set for May 28, and as such, an update to fix the bug was due before then. Thankfully, The Pokémon Company delivered, and the patch is available to download now.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet 1.3.1: patch notes

Because the update is very small, it should only take a few moments to update. Unfortunately, it seems like Nintendo won’t be providing patch notes for this update, instead simply providing a statement on the official Japanese Pokémon Twitter account.

The statement, as translated by DeepL, reads as follows:

“Update data (Ver. 1.3.1) for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been distributed. We have fixed a problem that caused unintended behavior in official tournaments in which specific users were invited. We have sent an email to the participants of the affected tournaments to inform them of our response to this issue.”

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have been home to many bugs and glitches since their launch in November last year. Most recently, event tera raids were paused and ultimately canceled after a bug that caused players’ games to crash.

It comes after an embarrassing fumble regarding the launch of Pokémon Home support for Scarlet and Violet. The Pokémon Company International announced the imminent launch of the update last week, saying it was coming on May 24.

It then backtracked, saying the announcement was a mistake, and that Home support was delayed to a later date. The Pokémon Company has yet to announce a new date for the update, but it’s expected to come in the next few weeks.
