Mariners to Ban Peanuts

The Mariners are so hard up for fans, they're now appealing to those with peanut allergies by banning peanuts in certain sections of the stadium for two upcoming games. Mariners management apparently thinks those with peanut allergies are deathly afraid of the legumes, and once they learn that Safeco is peanut-free, they'll flock to the stadium.

Ummm, OK Seattle. I'm sure the low attendance numbers have nothing to do with the dearth of talent or the 38-63 record. It's all about the peanuts. Or, is this just a ploy to change the "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" lyrics to "buy me some Starbucks and Nintendo Wiis....."?

Maybe to save money on the contract for Erik Bedard they are starting with peanuts and will soon not allow people to come to the games...move to a tv only team.

heres an idea on getting fans to come to the games..............Win

I hate peanuts myself - but this seems very anti-american.
FYI - people eat peanuts in the hallways too. Sorry.

The Mariners attendance is actually not as bad as one might assume. They average nearly 30,000 a night even though they 22 games below .500. That is the problem though, Mr. Nintendo doesn't care as much about winning as he does about bringing in money. He has never even been to a game.

Mr. Yamauchi has never senn the a game at Safeco? thats a shame, such a gorgeous place

That is surprising to hear. Shouldn't that be some kind of requirement? The owner has to go to at least half the home games or something?

Yeah no kidding. Even if he is up there playing some Wii baseball or Zelda or something. At least TRY to show up.

i will agree with that, one of the reasons i love angels bball=Uncle Arte

Arte rules. Much better than Disney, even if the team did win a World Series under them.

Not sure if the Mariners are making their entire ballpark peanut-free, but they have a similar thing here in St. Louis. Only a couple sections, and only once in while, mainly, for the little guys and gals, the kids that are so allergic, they're taking a real medical chance by attending the regular sections. The sections are in the outfield, and it's not made fun of her, because of the kids wanting to go to a real ballgame, something a lot of us adults take for granted. The article is cool, and funny, as are the comments, but just to say that there are actually a few good reasons for this deal. (I especially liked Annt74's idea on getting the fans to come to the games.) There's enough nuts in the stands at any ball game anyway; we could use a few nut-free zones.
