Found June 24, 2013 on Mets Merized Online:
The New York Mets won their second consecutive road series against an Eastern Division rival, after rocking the Phillies 8-0 on Sunday. There are so many encouraging things to take away from this series, that we’re going to get right to the 3 & 3. Amazin’ Matt: Ho hum, Matt Harvey pitched the rubber game of the series on Sunday and only went six scoreless innings, before the rain washed him out of the game. Through 16 starts, Harvey is 7-1 with a 2.05 ERA, 121 strikeouts, a 0.882 WHIP, 4 homers allowed and a .188 opponent batting average. The Captain’s On Fire: David Wright is on another hot streak right now, and tied a franchise record with four extra-base hits on Sunday including two doubles, a home run and a triple. I liked the triple, which happened right after the rain delay, with the ball hitting off one of the supports in the outfield. We also have to mention Wright’s outstanding baserunning in the ninth inning of Saturday’s game, hustling and scoring all the way from f...

MMO Players Of The Week: A Newbie, A Rookie And A Harvey

Ahhh, what a week! Taking 3 out of 5 in Atlanta AND 2 out of 3 in Philly is a huge breath of fresh air for this slumping ballclub (and maybe another sign of the decline of western civilization!).  Even though they stumbled out of the blocks at the start of the week, not giving Gee any run support and losing on a walk-off by Chipper—I mean, Freddie Freeman, they were, for the most...

David Wright’s comeback as sudden as his decline

By: Joe Vasile While a lot of attention has recently been paid to the Mets unorthodox methods of promoting David Wright’s all-star candidacy, the much bigger story is that Wright is posting numbers worthy of an all-star in 2013. Only two years ago, it seemed nearly unfathomable that Wright would ever post an all-star caliber season again, but his resurgence this year and last...

Phillies Fall to Matt Harvey, Sky is Blue

If you hadn't heard of Matt Harvey before today's ballgame, you now can't forget him. In a division that already includes young starters like Stephen Strasburg and Julio Teheran, Harvey has become the leader. Already 6-1 (should probably be 9-1) with a 2.16 ERA and a 3.7 WAR, Harvey would...

The Matt Harvey Express Rolls Over the Phillies

If the opponents in the National league east have not become impressed with Matt Harvey, the Philadelphia Phillies have. David Wright had a up close and personal view of the Philly hitters as the Mets ace (Yes I said since earlier this season, he is the ace) made believers of the Phillies. Wright knew it was going to be a good day. He saw the surprise on Jimmy Rollins’ face after...

Coming Soon To A League Near You: The Designated Hitter

Imagine waking up tomorrow morning, checking out MMO and reading that Matt Harvey got injured. Our jaws would drop, our stomachs would sink and our heart would skip a beat. Then, to take it one step further, imagine if our ace and the pitcher we intend to build our future around was injured not by pitching, but while taking a turn at bat. Wouldn’t it be that much worse? The question...

Zack Wheeler Gives Mets Fans More Hope For the Future

It’s been very difficult to be a Mets fan these past few years. Since their epic collapse in 2007, fans have witnessed over five years of injuries, disappointing signings, embarrassing losses (Luis Castillo, anyone?) and poor ownership. There have been bright spots, such as Dillon Gee’s 7-0 start and Jose Reyes’ batting title in 2011, and R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young Award last...

Mets Matters: Wheeler Makes Second Start; Time To Rest Wright

Zack Wheeler has been in our consciousness for over a year, but has one start in our memories. He gets his second tonight for the New York Mets in Chicago against the White Sox. Wheeler threw six, tense scoreless innings in his debut at Atlanta. However, four hits and five walks means he was in trouble most of the night. He needed those seven strikeouts. WHEELER: Goes tonight vs...

The pros and cons for Jeremy Hefner

With Jonathon Niese going on the disabled list, the Mets’ decision on which pitcher to drop from the rotation was delayed. That’s good news for Jeremy Hefner and Shaun Marcum, the two leading candidates to be removed. Let’s take a minute to look at the pros and cons for Hefner remaining a starter, if and when Niese returns this season. The biggest pro for Hefner is his recent...

June 18, 2013 Was A Turning Point For The New York Mets

They say that every great run of success usually had its roots in a turning point. Looking at Mets history you can say we’ve had quite a few turning points – both good and bad. Gil Hodges and Tom Seaver were certainly turning points for the Mets – when they went from lovable losers to a team to be reckoned with and one that shocked the world in 1969. I always felt that the...
