(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By ANTONIO GONZALEZ AP Sports Writer Carlos Rogers had one word to describe his homecoming in Atlanta when the San Francisco 49ers face the Falcons in Sunday's NFC championship: expensive. The 49ers cornerback, born in Augusta and an offseason resident of Atlanta, grew up doing the ''Dirty Birds'' dance when the Falcons reached the Super Bowl during the 1998 season. He has paid for more than 30 tickets for friends and family as he makes an appearance in the Georgia Dome for only the third time in his eight-year career. What Rodgers will encounter on the field could be taxing, too. Julio Jones, Roddy White and tight end Tony Gonzalez present all sorts of problems for San Francisco's secondary to solve. The trio is part of what Gonzalez calls the PYP offense - Pick Your Poison - that has shredded defenses while catching Matt Ryan's passes. --- Online: http://pro32.ap.org/poll and http://twitter.com/AP-NFL

White to Niners defense: Don't miss

Atlanta wide receiver Roddy White said the Falcons are looking to take advantage of how aggressive the 49ers play on defense.

The Falcons finally won their first playoff game with Matt Ryan. Did they put too much on last weeks game? Championship game preview.

The Falcons won last week but do they have anything left for San Fran? The Divisional round delivered some of the best football of the season.  Having the elite quarterbacks on the field definitely helped. This weekend we have a final four that should deliver more exciting football.  This is why the NFL is the most popular sport. I previewed the Championship games...

Vernon Davis provides a little bulletin board material for Falcons

The San Francisco 49ers are feeling good about themselves, and Vernon Davis just let everyone else know it. Coming so close in 2011, the 49ers feel they are a team of destiny and the Atlanta Falcons are merely a road block in the way. While the perception of the 49ers is that of a hard nosed group, Atlanta isn’t given much of a shot, especially from the 49ers tight end.

Gonzalez another step closer to going out a champ

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By PAUL NEWBERRY AP Sports Writer Tony Gonzalez remembers talking to Michael Strahan after the former New York Giants defensive lineman won a Super Bowl title in his final game. That's the way Gonzalez wants to do it. He's two wins away from going out a champion. The top-seeded Falcons (14-3) host the San Francisco 49ers...

Frank Gore Probable For NFC Championship

San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore is probable for the NFC Championship on Sunday against Atlanta with his usual knee issues.Fantasy Spin:There is no way Gore misses the Falcons game and his listing on the report is normal for the 49ers starting tailback. He rushed 23 times for 119 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 48 yards in the 49ers' Divisional Round...

Video: Matt Ryan stars in awkward animated clip

It is a commonly-held tradition in the NFL for quarterbacks to treat their offensive lineman to a complimentary meal from time to time. After all, the big guys are responsible for making sure their signal caller is well protected.Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan is aware of this and I guess that is why he is starring in this awkward, animated clip from Yahoo! Sports. Ryan and...

Report: Michael Crabtree being investigated for sexual assault

According to KTVU, 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree is being investigated by the San Francisco Police Department for sexual assault allegations. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Crabtree has already been interviewed by SFPD with his lawyer present. Crabtree reportedly has pledged to remain cooperative moving forward. Per the Chronicle, the alleged incident took place...

Saints Nation: Thoughts on Championship Games

For me the playoffs have come down to rooting against the Atlanta Falcons and being satisfied with whatever other possible combination of results happen. In fact, I've been given the opportunity to attend the Super Bowl thanks to a close friend and I told him that I could only accept going if the Atlanta Falcons aren't in it. True story. If I had never been to one before...

Kaeptain America

I’m wearing this Sunday Juan… Colin Kaepernick has only made 9 starts in his short career, but has already electrified the NFL and it’s fans.  If he can help the 49ers get past the Falcons and win the Super Bowl, he will be Kaeptain American. Colin Kaepernick’s 4th Grade Letter Colin Kaepernick GIF

49ers waive K Cundiff

The San Francisco 49ers are sticking with David Akers. San Francisco announced Friday that it waived kicker Billy Cundiff. Cundiff was signed by the 49ers on Jan. 1 to compete with the struggling Akers. The 49ers decided to keep Akers as their regular kicker but left Cundiff on the roster prior to their playoff victory over the Green Bay Packers last week. However, they did not...

High-flying Falcons present big passing test

Niners All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman was quick to reply when asked this week to name the biggest threat San Francisco’s rugged defense faces this week against the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship Game. “Their wide receivers,” Bowman said. The 49ers will have their hands full with Atlanta’s elite receivers, not to mention a rather renowned TE that can cause some problems, too.

Highlights: 49ers vs Packers Divisional Round

Highlights from the 49ers Divisional Game Playoff win over the Green Bay Packers.

Round Table: NFC Rooting

Who will you be rooting for in the NFC Championship Game? Raj:  I will be rooting for San Francisco. I realize that in terms of simplicity, the Falcons would be an "easier" team for the Patriots. However, I think both teams pose a big threat. The 49ers are a slightly tougher threat but I know that New England can beat this team again. A known devil (San Francisco)...
