Lost in all the hoopla over Rajon Rondo's new contract is the fact that yesterday was also the deadline to pick up the option on JR Giddens for next season. The Celtics declined the option, making JR a free agent next off season.
The Celtics could still decide to bring him back, offering him a league minimum contract, but I get the feeling that they aren't inclined to do so. Last season, they kept Bill Walker with the team while sending Giddens back to the D-League. Bill Walker was the player who got spot minutes with the team rather than JR. If they keep one of the two, it seems as though, for whatever reason, they would rather Walker.
Giddens has athletic ability and at time has shown flashes. He did well in his stint with the Utah Flash last season, averaging 17.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. But, for some reason, he hasn't been able to get Doc's confidence or to earn minutes with the team. He may spend the season in the D-League or at ...
