Macho Row:
The Phillies are chasing the Yankees right now, down 3-1First I would like to apologize for the lack of updates on this site over the crucial World series weekend. An unfortunate time for my auto-scheduled posts to fail me I must say. But regardless we move on. Rather than rehash each painful mistake in the previous two games that have put the Phillies down 3-1 in the series and on the brink of elimination, I chose to focus on today.
I will have a recap video for the games over the weekend up shortly but for now let's look for reasons to be optimistic.
The Phillies are down 3-1, not 4-1. Quite simply it means that the Phillies still have a shot at this, although it will not be easy. Winning three straight games will be a difficult task against this Yankees team, especially since the final two would have to come on the road. But who better than the Phillies to pull off the rare and difficult task?
It all starts tonight when the Phillies trot out Cliff Lee, who has been magnificent this October. But just because Lee is pitching does not mean the game is already won. The offense will still have to put some runs on the board against A.J. Burnett, who shut down the Phillies' bats in game two to even the series.
The Phillies are now 4-3 at Citizens Bank Park, which is a far stretch form last year's unblemished record at home. While playing just above .500 at home is not the most confident stat to fall back on, the fact of the matter is the Phillies have a winning record when stepping out of their personal dugout. Who is to say that the Phillies do not make it 5-3 tonight?
All that matters at this point is winning one game. Should the Phillies come out on top tonight then we all get to enjoy more baseball later this week. Isn't that all we want right now?
A win tonight gives the Phillies a chance. Is it a great chance? No, but I'll take a small chance over seeing my team eliminated anytime.
If the Yankees win, they deserve it. But I am not ready to watch the Yankees celebrate a 27th world championship in Philadelphia. Look for Cliff Lee to pull a Curt Schilling tonight in a must win game.

Chase Utley powers Phillies to Game Six
Cliff Lee not spectacular but good enough for a winIf the season relied on one at-bat, who else would the Phillies want up besides Chase Utley? Right now the answer is probably nobody.Utley smacked two home runs but his first inning three run blast set the tone for the game as the Phillies kept the Yankees from celebrating a 27th world championship at Citizens Bank Park. The Yankees are a win away from a 27th World Series title. Standing in their way is Cliff Lee. Can he continue his postseason brilliance and keep the Phillies alive? The Yankees lead 1-0.
Who is the Most Likely MVP of the World Series?
World Series MVP: The Yankees could clinch it tonight - doubtful, Cliff Lee is pitching - and the MVP vote would be difficult. Can A-Rod possibly be in contention despite getting just two hits in the first four games? Jeter is 7-for-16, and a likely contender. Underappreciated Mariano Rivera has three saves, and has to [...]
To A.J. Or Not to A.J.
Here's the million dollar question: Do you want A.J. Burnett starting game 5 over Chad Gaudin? I'm not sure myself. There are pros and cons to both and I'm not sure which side has better arguments. This decision could end up proving to be a colossal mistake. It could definitely end up biting the Yankees right in the rear. The lineup is likely going to be very weak tonight. The...
Utley, Lee keep Phils alive with 8-5 win over Yanks in Game 5
The World Series is heading back to the Bronx. Chase Utley homered twice to back a strong start by ace lefty Cliff Lee before the Phillies' bullpen held on for an 8-6 win in Game 5.
Another Traitor
As if Massarotti's column wasn't enough, read this from today's New York Times. This guy, Joe Nocera, who claims to be a "card-carrying member of Red Sox Nation" since the 1950s and '60s, is actually "warming up to the Yankees" and even refers to them as "underdogs." (Nobody with the payroll they've got are "underdogs.") He seems to get all warm and fuzzy about George Steinbrenner...
Burnett gets call on short rest for Yankees in Game 5
PHILADELPHIA — Because of extra rest, the Yankees continue to use their top pitchers on short rest.
As expected, the Yankees will start A.J. Burnett on three days rest opposite of Phillies ace Cliff Lee. No Chad Gaudin. The reason is simple: Yankees manager Joe Girardi felt like his pitchers were ready to do this after [...]
