The answer to yesterday's puzzle is James Loney. There are four steps to solving it: First, unscramble the image on the left. Dig through your CD collection for a reference image if necessary. The unscrambling process will be helpful for two different reasons, one of which is the resulting message "X's mark the spots". Keep that in mind. Divide the image on the right into a 4x4 grid as is the left image. Then re-arrange the resulting sixteen pieces "in sync" with how you unscrambled the left image: Next, find the hidden words. Here are the 32 words you're looking for: Seven (7) Spice Girls or Central American countries: Brown, Bunton, Halliwell, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, and Panama; Six (6) Entourage actors or Sex and the City characters: Ferrara, Grenier, Piven, Hobbes, Jones, York; Seven (7) current Supreme Court Justices or 5 last contestants on Rock of Love Bus: Roberts, Ginsburg, Thomas, Stevens, Mindy, Beverly, Ashley; Six (6) top 5 ca...

Five All-Star Break Ponderables

1. Does this qualify as a slump? The Dodgers barely had a winning June at 14-12, and they won only nine of their last 17 games heading into the All-Star break. It's been three weeks since they've won three straight. On the other hand, Manny Ramirez has hit three home runs since returning from his suspension and the rest of the offense seems to be percolating as well. ...

Frank McCourt Rocks?

I recently discovered the website of Vanessa Preziose Photography. Preziose was present for two Dodger pre-season visits to the City of Hope facilities and captured, among many moments, this unexpectedly charming candid of Frank McCourt with a backing band of Andre Ethier, Hiroki Kuroda, Rudy Law and Charley Steiner. Check out Preziose's galleries: DAY ONE - Los Angeles Dodgers...

Phillies close to adding Pedro Martinez to starting rotation

After weeks of flirting with the idea and watching him throw, it looks like the Phillies are coming close to an agreement with Pedro Martinez. The Philadelphia Daily News is reporting that Pedro is flying to Philadelphia today to take a physical for the team and the deal could be announced before Wednesday. Martinez would have landed with a team earlier in the year following...

Philly is Votin' for Pedro: Martinez May Be Headed to Play for Phils

Jayson Stark of ESPN.com reports that free agent pitcher Pedro Martinez is on the watch from the Phillies. I agree with Macho-Row, he'll fit well. I also agree that he'll probably be at the fourth spot in the starting pitching rotation. The Phils have also been very weak this year in pitching as their rotation is one of the worst in the league. Hopefully, Martinez can bring...

Many stated that he shouldn’t be able to do this and that he should serve his 50 [...]

Some Minor League Stuff

... to atone for the absence of my daily Minor League Scorebook post (having networking trouble at home this weekend). First, something from Kevin Goldstein in today's Minor League Update: Trevor Bell, RHP, Angels (Triple-A Salt Lake) Sunday's stats: 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K A supplemental first-round pick in 2005, Bell is one of the thousands of arms out there whose velocity...
