MARLINS 8, DODGERS 6 Jason Schmidt and Jeff Weaver both regressed to their means today, collectively allowing eight runs over six innings. The Dodgers gamely scraped together four runs on James Loney's two-RBI double and Russell Martin's two-run homer in the sixth, but a ninth-inning rally came up short when Matt Kemp fouled out with a man on first to end the game. Maybe because of the blowout (the Dodgers were down 8-0 by the fourth inning), Weaver took out some of his frustration by hitting Hanley Ramirez on the shoulder in the sixth. The Marlins' Burke Badenhop responded by hitting Orlando Hudson in the butt the next inning, and that was that. We're not advocating endangering players, but it was nice to see a Dodger pitcher show some huevos on the mound. Players hate losing as much as fans do, and if this loss was good for nothing else, it reminded everybody that the team with the best record in the majors also has a little edge.

Yardwork: Everyone Loves Plunking Hanley, Only Four More Days of Halladay Rumors

Marlins 8, Dodgers 6: Florida was up 8-0 in the sixth inning, so why not spice things up a bit? Enter Jeff Weaver to do the dirty work. He threw at Hanley, which prompted Burke Badenhop to throw at O-Dog. Badenhop and Gonzalez were both ejected. The homer announcers for Florida were great, they were [...]

Around The Web: The Pen

True Blue L.A.: Despite what anybody else might say, the Dodger bullpen is good.I challenge you to find another bullpen with as many quality arms.Ditto. The Dodgers not only have depth in the major leagues, but they have a glut of middle reliever types in the minors just chomping at the bit. If they have depth anywhere, it's in relief.L.A. Dodger Talk: I am a little confused...

New Sidebar Poll: Lifetime Pass

With those incessant trade rumors circulating around the media and blogosphere (blogomediasphere?) lately, much virtual ink has been spilled about what, if anything, the Dodgers should give up in order to fortify the team for a playoff run. Should we stick with the roster that got us here, or try to stay one step ahead of our NL neighbors? The mere thought of losing any of our...

The Need For An "Ace"

Personally, this entire mess started earlier today with Ken Rosenthal's false rumor about a Victor Martinez and Cliff Lee trade.Jon Weisman had a great comment about Rosenthal's failure as a journalist. The middle of today's game came with a distraction in the form of FoxSports.com gossip Ken Rosenthal passing along a typical unsubstantiated and ultimately false rumor...
