Another Cubs Blog:
I’m not exactly sure when it happened, but I do remember Johnson fouling a ball off his foot in today’s game. He came out early and was replaced by Fukudome. The Cubs hoped it was just a bruise, but with the 2009 Cubs luck that wasn’t likely. It’s a broken foot and Reed will miss at least one month. Sam Fuld probably gets the call-up tomorrow.

Cubs Win Streak Ends at 5
The Cubs five-game win streak doesn't make it to six and and the loss coupled with the Cardinals win over the Dodgers, drops the Cubs back to second place. Ryan Dempster returned from the disabled list and was nothing short of awful. 5 IP, 9 H, 3 K and 5 ER, 6 total and the error was his own. But at least he didn't walk anyone! With the Cubs catching a huge break when Roy...
100-Game Mark TCR Reader Survey: Question 4
How optimistic do you feel toward the remaining 2009 Chicago Cubs' season?
Departing with a Win - Cubs 12 Astros 3
Game One Hundred - Cubs 12 Astros 3
WP - Kevin Hart (3-1) LP - Russ Ortiz (3-6) Save - None
It is not too often that both starting pitchers in a big league game find themselves either released of traded shortly after the 27th out is recorded ... but that is exactly what happened on Thursday. Soon after Kevin Gregg struck out Kaz Matsui to end the game, the Houston Astros released...
Press Release: TMS Was Right To Endorse Wells
***FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE***Thunder Matt’s Saloon Was Right To Endorse WellsChicago, IL – July 29, 2009After 8 solid innings of shutout ball, giving up only 6 hits and walking 2, TMS's July 16th endorsement of Randy Wells has thus far proven to be "right on, bitches," in the words of an anonymous TMS staffer. This staffer then went on to call Wells "Nails. Totally...
What's That Sucking Sound? It's The Cubs' Second Base Black Hole.
It's amazing to me that a team that has approximately half the roster devoted to second sackers doesn't have one that's any good. Ever since the salary dump of He Who Shall Not Be Named in the offseason, the Cubs have experimented with several options at second, with none of them turning out to be particularly effective.Considering that the Cubs have managed to claw...
Maybe They Should Pitch Moyer Every Ten Days
Jamie Moyer extended his bad game/great game streak to eight as the Phillies down the Diamondbacks 6-2 Monday night. Moyer pitched shutout ball for 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and four walks as Arizona could not take advantage of their base runners. Moyer started the streak allowing six runs against Toronto, and [...]
Grabow and Gorzelanny to the Cubs for Kevin Hart, Jose Ascanio and Josh Harrison
I figured when I left lab at 5:40 that this would go official when I was on the . Here's DK's post about the trade and I'll dig up some more and have it posted in a few minutes.
Cubs stumble against Astros
Ryan Dempster falters in comeback start
Ted Lilly joked before Tuesday night's game that Ryan Dempster never should have tried to imitate him when he jumped over the dugout fence three weeks ago and broke his big right toe.
Chicago Cubs Continue To Improve As They Take Three of Four From Astros
It's all good for Cubs fans, at least for now. The Cubs beat the Astros 12-3 on Thursday to close up a big four-game series, where the Cubs won three of the games.
The Cubs' slamming of the Astros came after routing them 12-0 the day before. Everyone in the lineup is contributing, and you no longer hear anyone saying the word "slump."
Kosuke Fukudome went 3...
Gorzelanny and Grabow PITCHf/x
Kevin Hart, Jose Ascanio and Josh Harrision were dealt to Pittsburgh for left-handed pitchers Tom Gorzelanny and John Grabow. Grabow will join Sean Marshall as the second lefty in the Cubs bullpen. Gorzelanny could be off to Iowa, no word yet.I took a look at Grabow yesterday, and figured he's not much different than George Sherrill or Joe Beimel. Gorzelanny has also been covered...
CUBS IN BRIEF: No taunting, just a wave from Soriano
Talk radio and blogs buzzed Tuesday over Alfonso Soriano supposedly showing up the Houston Astros by pointing and gesturing while running out his walkoff grand slam Monday night.

New Chicago Cub Tom Gorzelanny (Cubbie Nation/file)
It amazes me how quickly the Cubs can take me through an emotional range sometimes. First, they completely destroy Russ Ortiz and the Astros, 12-3 at Wrigley this afternoon, taking 3-of-4 in the series.
However, that happiness turned to sadness at the news that they had acquired John Grabow and Tom...
Come To Think Of It: Don't Expect Big Splash From Cubs at Trade Deadline
While the St. Louis Cardinals have been making moves of late, and the Milwaukee Brewers continue to look for another starter, don’t expect the Cubs to make a big splash at the trade deadline on Friday, July 31.
But don’t fret, Cubs fans. We don’t really need a whole lot of help. In fact, our most pressing needs are to get healthy and to continue to get improved...
