Do you ever get a sinking feeling watching a baseball game? The feeling that you know something bad is going to happen and no matter how many different Gods you pray to, no matter how many breaks your team gets, no matter how many times you tell yourself that it's going to be okay that something bad is going to happen. There is no way to justify your feelings or explain why you think it so, but you just know deep inside what the outcome is going to be.Ladies and Gentlemen, I experienced that sinking feeling yesterday. In the Atlantic League. Watching Armando Benitez pitch in the ninth inning of the freakin' Atlantic League All-Star game. Benitez was trying to shut the door on a 5-3 game, but deep down, I don't think there was a soul in the stadium, who thought Armando would actually shut the door. For me personally, I have witnessed the epic meltdowns of Benitez many times before during his days with the Mets so I braced myself for the inevitable as the first batter step...

Fisher Cats Game Report-June 19/2009

I paid my second ever visit to Manchester to catch the opener of a series between the Fisher Cats and the Erie Sea Wolves in AA action.  Timing in life is everything.  I missed a walk off win by the F-Cats the night before and this one was decided in the late going as well.  Marty McLeary returned from the disabled list to make his first start of the season.  The 34 year-old...

Lovely Lyle

It's official: Lyle Overbay is back. And I'm as giddy as a school girl about it. A .540 slugging percentage, and .939 OPS; both tops on the Blue Jays. Even better: a marvelous 146 OPS+.And ... wait for it ... he's only grounded into four double plays. There's more. In 174 at-bats (more than 100 fewer than regulars Marco Scutaro, Aaron Hill, Alex Rios, Vernon Wells...

Jays' ace Halladay scheduled to return Monday

TORONTO (AP) -- Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, out since June 12 with a mild groin strain, threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled return to the rotation on Monday against Tampa Bay.

June Reflections on the Blue Jays

When my partner in crime, Tom, penned his last epistle about our beloved azure corvidae, things were just going great in the Queen City.  He mentioned how much he was enjoying the season thus far, and confided that he wasn’t sure how long the Jays could keep it up.  The answer – not long.  Almost immediately after his missive, the Jays went into a tailspin in which they were...

Jays ace Halladay targets Monday return

Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay, out since June 12 with a mild groin strain, threw a bullpen session Tuesday and is scheduled return to the rotation on Monday against Tampa Bay.

For all the wrong reasons

It's safe to say Jerry Crasnick does not believe in Vernon Wells. If you haven't yet read Crasnick's inspired ESPN.com column on Toronto's beloved centre fielder, let me take you on a tour. And trust me, bring some Kleenex along for the ride. It's a tearjerker. So saith Crasnick:Since Opening Day 2007, Wells has a slugging percentage of .429 -- the same as Chris...

Recap: Toronto vs. Cincinnati

Brian Tallet twirled six shutout innings of three-hit ball and was backed by three Toronto home runs in a 7-5 Blue Jays win against Cincinnati to open a three-game interleague set.

Hey, You Used To Be Armando Benitez!

When I purchased tickets to the 2009 Atlantic League all star game a month back, I figured I would be treated to watching former MLBers Carl Everett, Preston Wilson, Keith Foulke and more continue to try and resurrect their respective careers. However, when the rosters were finally announced, there was only ONE name on both rosters that I recognized.Armando Benitez.Yes, the former...

Wins... We Have Some Wins!

Everyone won (seriously, the affiliates actually had a collectively-solid night) except the young kids in the Gulf Coast League... and they lost in extra innings. Las Vegas 4 Tacoma 1Marc Rzepczynski was in fine form during his triple-A debut. The left-hander allowed just two hits and three walks in 5.2 innings, while striking out nine batters. Bryan Bullington worked 1.1 scoreless...

Five reasons Jays may not make it

As the amount of sunlight and the number of games in the Jays season begin to shorten, the Jays still believe they are poised to make a second-half run at a post-season berth. Is such a goal realistic?

Cincinnati Reds (34-36) at Toronto Blue Jays (40-33), 7:07 p.m.

Second-year right-hander Johnny Cueto seeks a return to early-season success tonight, when the Cincinnati Reds visit the Toronto Blue Jays and try to avoid a series sweep in the third and final game of their midweek interleague set at Rogers Centre.
