Found June 22, 2009 on Bleeding Blue and Teal:
I noted last week in a post about Guillermo Pimentel that the Seattle Mariners’ international budget has been increased two or three fold this year, and while they may be a front runner for Pimentel they have their eyes on Wagner Mateo as well, according to a Jorge Arangure (ESPN) tweet. Like Pimentel, Mateo is one [...]

Mike Morse, Utility Infielder

Uhh.. no. Even since Mike Morse burst onto the scene a couple years ago there has been a ridiculous amount of unjustified Mike Morse love.  With every Spring Training and every injury there is a large contingent of people that think Morse is the guy the M’s need to carry with that 25th spot. I like Mike [...]

Weekly Grades: Mariners Over .500

Seattle Mariners: The Ms wrapped up a great week yesterday, defeating Arizona 3-2. Over the last two series against Arizona and their rival, San Diego, Seattle went 5-1. The Ms are now only two and a half games out of first place. The ups and downs of the past season have often left me confused. But you need to remember that the Ms 5-1 record last week came against two sub-.500 teams...

Quote of the Day: Carl Everett on Dinosaurs

Nothing helps a Monday go by like some words of wisdom from Carl Everett."God created the sun, the stars, the heavens and the earth, and then made Adam and Eve," Everett said last Friday, before the Red Sox lost two of three in Atlanta. "The Bible never says anything about dinosaurs. You can't say there were dinosaurs when you never saw them. Someone actually saw Adam and Eve. No...

(Video) Josh Womack Responds To Big League Stew Doubters

Big League Stew’s David Brown recently ran the video of Josh Womack’s freaky crazy bat trick. Bugs & Cranks also had that video for you a few weeks ago. Many folks who commented on the BLS piece questioned the authenticity of the video and the trick itself.  Many call it a fake.  A complete shame.  One of them deals like the Lebron James commercial or the Shawn Suisham...

Cancer screening a personal crusade for Griffey Sr.

Ken Griffey Sr. said he would have enjoyed being here for the third Civil Rights Game weekend.

Mariners team is manufacturing some luck

Somebody mentioned in the comments thread of the previous post that this Mariners team is putting itself in a position to take advantage of some luck. I could not agree more. Just like, back during the team's losing stretches, luck seemed to go the other way when the M's were not getting things done. You have to be good to be lucky and lucky to be good in this game. Yes, it helps...

This Week In The 90s: 6/21 - 6/27

June 27, 1993:  New York Mets pitcher Anthony Young loses 24th straight game

Podcast: should Mariners trade Jarrod Washburn for Juan Pierre?

Lots of discussion on this blog today about reports out of Los Angeles that the Dodgers are interesting in acquiring Mariners pitcher Jarrod Washburn. One of the pieces the Dodgers could be looking to move is speedy outfielder Juan Pierre, a perennial threat on the basepaths who could naturally fit in to Seattle's left field slot after the season-ending injury to Endy Chavez. It...

Heartbreaking loss for D-backs

It didn’t take long for the Arizona Diamondbacks to find out why Seattle Mariners starter Felix Hernandez is called “The King.” After a leadoff single in the first by Felipe Lopez, Hernandez cruised right through the next three batters. In the second inning the D-backs looked like they had a chance to break it open, but [...]
