This little nugget about Felix Hernandez caught my eye:
"Felix will be an affordable, young, dynamic budding superstar of a pitcher in 2010. And his home is at the moment unknown. The Mariners don't have the talent to contend against the Angels in the AL West, and it appears that they'd rather trade Felix now, while they can still get a boatload of young talent for him, rather than wait for him to become a free agent and skip town."
For the life of me, I cannot understand why the Mariners would want to trade Felix Hernandez now or anytime in the near future. As the author noted, Felix Hernandez is cheap, young, and a dynamic starting pitcher. While he's under the Mariners control, they should be building around him, not looking to blow the whole thing up.And further, why can't the Mariners sign Felix Hernandez to an extension or even re-sign him once he reaches free agency? The Mariners are not a financially strapped organization. They are not the Rays, Marlins, or Twins. ...

Hall and Saunders
You’ve probably noticed that Bill Hall has been essentially an everyday player since he arrived in Seattle, and that after Adrian Beltre returned and Mike Carp joined the club when rosters expanded, Wakamatsu has found playing time for Hall by sticking him primarily in left field. Because of that decision, Michael Saunders has essentially [...]--

New York Yankees at Seattle Mariners: 09/18 game thread
Felix Hernandez takes his 15-5 record and 1.52 ERA to the mound tonight against a New York Yankees squad that has won seven of 10.
Mariners' loss to White Sox takes a toll
If Mark Lowe (shown above after giving up the key hit of the game, a two-out, two-strike, two-run single to A.J. Pierzynski) is working in the seventh, as he was here, it's probably not a good omen for the Mariners.
With Sean White sidelined for the past three weeks or so, and now out for the season, the Mariners have struggled to get the link to Lowe in the eighth and David Aardsma...
Mariners pregame notes and info
From the skipper Don Wakamatsu:
-Infielder Jack Wilson bruised a heel last night and showed up in the clubhouse on crutches. His status is day-to-day, though Wakamatsu isn't sure how long Wilson will be out.
-IF-OF Bill Hall suffered a cramp in his right quadriceps as he ran down the first-base line Tuesday. "I thought he'd be able to play but he feels some soreness and we just feel...
Ryan Rowland-Smith in control as Mariners beat White Sox, 4-1
Mike Carp slugged his first career major-league home run in the fourth innning, and Ryan Rowland-Smith turned in an efficient eight innings of work for the Seattle Mariners
Steppin' in for Mr. Baker, and the lineups for tonight
It's your favorite soccer reporter -- well, maybe -- Jose Romero coming to you from Safeco Field, where at this moment Felix Hernandez and Carlos Silva are tossing a frisbee. It's a Venezuelan reunion down on the field with Silva, Felix and Freddy Garcia from the ChiSox and Jose Lopez from the M's.
Hey the last time I filled in, didn't I cover a White Sox-Mariners game? That always...
Mariners 4, White Sox 3, 14 innings: Ichiro comes through at the end
Those of you who took the first eight innings off didn't miss anything. The Mariners seemed dead in the water after managing just an Adrian Beltre solo homer off John Danks and seeing Brandon Morrow walk six guys and allow three runs -- two earned -- in a ho-hum afternoon contest in front of the second-smallest crowd all season.
But Danks left the game after eight innings and closer...
Oh No! It's Ichiro! Mariners Walk Off vs. Mo
Mariano Rivera had struck out the first two batters of the ninth with ease, but then long-time Royal Mike Sweeney pinch hit for Josh Wilson. Sweeney doubled, and Ichiro homered to give the Mariners (77-71) a walk-off, 3-2 victory over the Yankees (94-54).

Pinch Hit: AL Cy Young Race
Brian W looks at the Cy Young contenders.
It seems that lately the media has written off Roy Halladay in the Cy Young race, with Zach Greinke the clear favourite. Justin Verlander and Felix Hernandez get some consideration, but generally it seems to be a race between Greinke and C.C. Sabathia. When I took a quick look at Greinke's numbers, something jumped out at me. First...
