ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Alex Cobb threw his second bullpen session Monday in his continued recovery from a mild concussion. The Tampa Bay Rays right-hander said he felt 10 times better off the mound compared with the last time he threw Friday, though he added there was not much difference in his condition while throwing 47 pitches in the latest session because last time felt great to me. He said he plans to throw another bullpen session Friday, and though a timetable from the team is unknown, Cobb said he hopes a late Julyearly August return is possible. The timeline is obviously getting shorter for me, and thats exciting, Cobb said. Cobb, 25, was placed on the concussion disabled list June 16 after a line drive off the bat of the Kansas City Royals Eric Hosmer struck him on the right ear June 15. He said he is still dealing with vertigo, but he added the condition has become immeasurably better the past two days. Whenever you have any type of injury, you always in the back of your mind wonder if its going to go away, Cobb said. That was especially the case in this situation. It was a miserable way to live for a few weeks, just having those symptoms everywhere I went. As of Monday evening, before the Rays game against the Minnesota Twins at Tropicana Field, Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon had not discussed Cobbs second bullpen session with head athletic trainer Ron Porterfield. But the pitchers progress after the first bullpen session had encouraged Maddon, who saw left-hander David Price return from a 47-day disabled list stint last Tuesday. He did feel really good post his last workout, Maddon said of Cobb. He was feeling great the other day, so if that went really well, then hes definitely feeling really well. Cobb is 6-2 with a 3.01 ERA in 13 starts this season. You can follow Andrew Astleford on Twitter @aastleford or email him at aastleford@gmail.com.
