TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Arizona womens soccer team shut out Arizona State 2-0 on Thursday, giving the Wildcats their first win over the Sun Devils on the pitch since 2009. I thought it was a great game, Arizona coach Tony Amato said. We havent beaten ASU in a few years, and we wanted to send off our seniors on a great note. We had a plan from the start and got two great goals off that plan. Overall, we executed well. Arizona (9-7-4, 4-6-1) took control early, as freshman Jaden DeGracie tallied her first goal of the season in the third minute of the match. DeGracie got an open look from the top of the box and arced a shot just over the reach of Arizona State goalkeeper Chandler Morris and under the crossbar. It appeared that ASU (9-8-2) tied the score late in the first half off a corner kick, but the goal was waved off due to a foul call against the Sun Devils. The score remained 1-0 until the 61st minute, when Wildcats junior Julia Glanz scored her second goal of the season off a throw-in from DeGracie. The Wildcats outshot the Sun Devils 16-12. Senior Jazmin Ponce led Arizona with eight shots, while Arizona State was led by McKenzie Berryhill, Cali Farquharson and Rachael Ritter with two shots apiece. In net, goalkeeper Gabby Kaufman recorded eight saves for the Wildcats while Chandler Morris made seven saves for the Sun Devils. "What I told the team after the game was Arizona couldnt take a step wrong and we couldnt take a step right today, said ASU head coach Kevin Boyd. Thursdays match -- the regular-season finale for both teams -- was the first between the two schools in seven seasons to be decided by more than one goal. The previous six meetings between the two rivals ended in 2-1 decisions, with ASU winning four of those contests.
