The Oakland A’s recalled OF Travis Buck from Triple-A and reinstated OF Connor Jackson from the 15-day disabled list on Monday. To make room for both players, the A’s optioned infielder Jeff Larish and outfielder Chris Carter.
Buck, who came up with the team back in 2007, began this season with the A’s. After hitting .219 with a home run and two RBIs in 11 games, Buck was placed on the disabled-list with a strained right oblique muscle. In 23 games with the River Cats, Buck hit .322 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. As for Jackson, the A’s outfielder was placed on the disabled-list with a strained right hamstring back in July. His return bodes well for the A’s injury-ridden team, as he was hitting .267 with four RBIs in 14 games with Oakland prior to his trip to the DL.
Larish and Carter, however, aren’t as lucky. Carter, the A’s top power-hitting prospect, went 0-f0r-19 in his first six games in the majors. Prior to getting called-up, Carter was hitting .262 with 27 homers with Triple-A Sacramento. Carter’s arrival in Oakland did not start out as planned, but the A’s are confident in the slugger’s potential. The A’s should have him back when rosters expand next month. In fact, both Carter and Larish could be back with the team in September. Next month should be fun for A’s fans, as the team could potentially call up prospect Michael Taylor as well. Carter and Taylor are seen as Oakland’s biggest bats right now in the minors.
