It’s not a big surprise that Cincinnati Reds outfielder Shin-Soo Choo is already getting some interest from a couple teams around the league especially those with enough money to pull him away from Cincinnati. According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports Choo may be getting some interest from former National League Central rival the Houston Astros. Right now the Houston Astros are currently in rebuild mode and are looking to get younger. But they would be absolutely crazy if they didn’t consider bringing in Choo to anchor their outfield. If the team is in a rough spot like they were this season they could possibly trade Choo for more prospects. So it would more than likely be a ‘Let’s sign him see where we go and deal him away for top prospects’ type of deal. Not sure if Choo would be interested in going that route but it seems to be the mindset in Houston.

Brandon Phillips dubbed 'not so popular' in the Reds clubhouse

The further we get from the end of the season, the more likely it appears the Reds are adamant about trading one of its most popular players, Brandon Phillips. Initial reports suggesting the team may be open to trading their All-Star second basemen have quickly grown into reports claiming it's an inevitable event. Aside from the previously reported reasons justifying a...

Report: Reds plan to trade Brandon Phillips this winter

The Cincinnati Reds bowed out of the 2013 playoffs in the one-game wild card round in disappointing fashion. After firing manager Dusty Baker, the Reds are apparently not done remaking their organization. Word has now come that they plan on trading second baseman Brandon Phillips this winter as well. Phillips posted an OPS of just .706 (his worst as a Red) in 2013, but did hit 18...

Jose Arredondo has elected free agency

According to Matt Eddy of Baseball America, right-handed reliever Jose Arredondo has elected free agency under Article XX(D). After posting stellar numbers with the Reds in 2012 (6-2, 2.95 ERA, 66 GP), Arredondo struggled mightily this season in spring training, and found himself as the odd man out in the bullpen come Opening Day. As fate would have it, the 28-year-old would...

Brandon Phillips as a Trade Asset

The Reds and their fans are likely understandably disappointed in their first-found playoff loss to the Pirates after a 90-win season. Still, the Reds gave themselves a shot by making the playoffs. It was their third playoff trip in four years, and though they did not make the Divisional Series as they did in their most recent two prior appearances, it was still the team’s third...

Reds Rumors: Brandon Phillips trade very possible

Even though he is one of the best glove men in the Major Leagues — and he can hit, too — Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips may soon find himself on the trading block. The Cincinnati Enquirer’s John Fay reports that Reds general manager Walk Jockety is trying to sign Cuban second baseman Alexander Guerrero as a replacement. Fay says that signing Guerrero is a long...

Reds seem interested in trading Phillips

The Reds’ interest in Cuban infielder Alexander Guerrero – even though Walt Jocketty says they’re unlikely to sign Guerrero – is the strongest indication that the club will try to trade Brandon Phillips. Guerrero projects as a second baseman. He reportedly agreed to a seven-year $32 million deal with the Dodgers in July but the contract was nixed because he had not been...

Taking another look at some Pitch F/X data from the Arizona Fall League.

Nationals not interested in Dusty Baker

Last week when Dusty Baker revealed that he’d contacted the Nationals about replacing Davey Johnson as manager Craig Calcaterra speculated that general manager Mike Rizzo wouldn’t be interested because he’s looking for a non-veteran skipper. Sure enough Adam Kilgore of the Washington Post now reports that the Nationals “have not reciprocated interest” and Baker is “not...

The Reds Intend to Trade Brandon Phillips This Off-Season

Brandon Phillips has been a Pirates killer, but might be moved by the Reds this off-season. (Photo Credit: David Hague) The rivalry between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Cincinnati Reds saw a boost this season. A big reason for this was that the Pirates were competitive, and were competing with the Reds for the Wild Card spot. They swept Cincinnati in the final weekend of the series...

The Braves would have interest in Brandon Phillips if the Reds take Dan Uggla back

We heard yesterday that the Reds could look to trade second baseman Brandon Phillips this offseason. And it sounds like we can count the Braves among the teams who could be in the mix to acquire him though there is a catch involved. We’re talking about a hypothetical scenario here so there’s nothing to suggest that the Reds would be interested in such a deal. Still it’s interesting...

Will The Mets Sign Free Agent Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo This Winter?

NYBenzGirl asks… Is there any chance that the Mets will target and sign Shin-Soo Choo this offseason? Joe D. replies… That’s actually a two part question. I have no doubt that the Mets will target a player like Choo, if only to drum up fan interest and create a little buzz this offseason. So yes they will most likely target Choo this Winter and they will leak and source out...

Billy Hamilton, 2014 Fantasy Outlook

I just spent thirty minutes looking up what Jere Burns has been up to. Ah, the offseason. You are a soothing mistress that touches my naughty bits with idle hands. A quick preamble about the 2014 fantasy baseball rookie series that is coming from me over the next few weeks. Rookies are picked through MLB eligibility requirements, less than 130 ABs or 50 IP. That means no Avisail...
