Like many of us, Gawain Johnstone started to become accustomed to the NFL by playing Madden video games. But unlike many of us, Johnstone bench presses 530 pounds and squats 850 pounds (see video below).
A 26 year old weightlifter in Australia, Johnstone has recently committed himself to a move to the United States to pursue a college education and a roster spot on a college football team. He spent three weeks in December visiting the midwest - meeting with coaches from Michigan State, Toledo, Eastern Michigan and Saginaw Valley State.
His trip was set up by former Eastern Michigan punter Martin Brudenell. Johnstone came away eager to put the wheels in motion for a return to the U.S. as a college football player. And it seems like Johnstone and Michigan State have a mutual interest.
