The Celtics’ uncertain situation at point guard did very little to get cleared up in Monday, although the focused admittedly was elsewhere. Brad Stevens‘ first preseason game as an NBA coach was not a total success, since the Celtics lost, but the opening exhibition did give the rookie coach a chance to get his feet wet at TD Garden. Meanwhile, Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk flashed some promising complementary skills, which is exactly what Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge must love to see from two of his most recent draft picks. But quite a few questions remain. MarShon Brooks hardly got off the bench against the Raptors and rookie free agent Phil Pressey never left the pine, while Avery Bradley had as many turnovers (three) as assists. Somebody has the handle the ball for the Celtics, and there are still very few signs that the Celtics have a player capable of taking that role until Rajon Rondo is healthy. The good news for the Celtics is that they have plenty of chances to get it right this week, with Monday’s tilt beginning a stretch of four preseason games in six days. By the end of the week, the Celtics will be only halfway through their preseason slate, but hopefully for them more than halfway to shoring things up for the regular season. NESN.com NBA editor Ben Watanabe and NESN Sports Today anchor Adam Pellerin joined up once again to discuss their impressions of Stevens’ Celtics debut and what they hope to see from the team in its crowded week.
