PLAYERS: Larry Bird
TEAMS: Boston Celtics
For basketball purists, it doesn't get much better than this. In the fourth quarter of game 7 between the Hawks and Celtics, Larry Bird and Dominique Wilkins had an incredible shootout. Larry scored 20 points in the quarter while Dominique finished with 17 points in the quarter. For the game, Bird finished with 34 pts and Dominique finished with 47 points. The Celtics won that game 118-116. It's a classic and a game for the ages. [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Bradley to Return to Practice in 7-10 Days

On the pregame show, CSNNE is reporting that Avery Bradley is set to begin practicing with the team in 7-10 days. This fits with the timetable that he gave earlier in the season that put him back practicing in mid-December. He will need to get his conditioning back and get back into game shape and expects to return to the court for games just after the New Year. The Celtics...

No, Danny Ainge isn't the problem

I love retrospective analyses because they don't mean much but are fun to read. However, if you use such analysis to cast a verdict upon the present, then my sympathy fades away. If your analysis is full of obvious bias, then my love turns into hate. An opinion piece on Green Street by Jerry Spar dissects Ainge's helm, giving him credit for 2007-08 season but naming him...

Recap: Slippage dooms Celtics in Philly

Is there something wrong with Rajon Rondo’s sneakers, or was the floor wet in Philly? Because it seemed like Rondo was slip-sliding all night. Fatal slippage occurred in the final seconds of overtime as Rondo lost his footing as he launched the potential game winning shot.  The ball missed everything and the Celtics walked away losers, 95-94. Props to Evan Turner (26 points, 10...

Happy Birthday Larry Legend

Everyone here at Red’s Army would like to wish Larry Bird a happy 56th birthday. It’s nearly impossible to put what Larry’s done for the Boston Celtics and the game of basketball into words. Larry will always be remembered for his clutch shooting, hard-nosed work ethic and leading the Boston Celtics to NBA Championships in 1981, ’84 and ’86. Bird simply dominated during...

Recap: KG, Celtics control Wolves

The Celtics started aggressively, but faded down the stretch of the second quarter to lull us all into believing we were in for another frustrating dog fight. But they took control of the game in the second half to push their lead up as high as 17 before settling for a 104-94 win.  The starters, led by Kevin Garnett, demolished the Timberwolves… scoring 82 of the Celtics 104 points...

Comments from the Other Side - Wolves 12/5

Most Wolves fans still love and respect KG, which is a good thing since he was totally classy there and gave that franchise a lot.  He does love beating them now though.    Lots of ref complaints but honestly, they got as many calls as the Celtics did.   Good game for the Celtics.  Great to see them finally crashing the boards as a team.  I've highlighted my favorite...

3 Things to Watch for in Tonight's Boston Celtics Game

Minnesota's past and future The Boston Celtics come into this game 9-8 and looking for answers. After blowing a huge lead against the Milwaukee Bucks, let's hope we can rebound. They play the Minnesota Timbervolves today in the "Kevin Garnett/Greg Stiemsma Bowl". If i recall, since we have had Kevin Garnett, we have not lost at home to these Wolves. Here are...

Celtics’ Home-and-Home Set With Sixers Adds Wrinkle to Challenge of Playing on Consecutive Nights

Of course there would be overtime. The Celtics were in the midst of playing three games in four nights, two of them back-to-back against the same division opponent. The more they play against a young Philadelphia squad recently, the more they seem to feed the Sixers’ burgeoning confidence. So, naturally, the Celtics and Sixers played an extra five minutes on Friday, except the...

Wolves v. Celtics Preview

Wolves v. Celtics Preview   Line:  Boston by 6.  Over/Under 190.  On the site I go to, the public is picking Boston -6, the experts are leaning toward Minnesota +6, and the O/U is split right down the middle  (Extra gambling nugget:  The Wolves are 4-0 against the spread when 5+ point underdogs this season). Injuries:  Wolves: AK47 out, tRicky Rubio...

Celtics-76ers Preview

Rajon Rondo and Jrue Holiday lead the Eastern Conference in assists and had no trouble racking them up the last time they met. The point guards will match up twice this weekend when Rondo's Boston Celtics and Holiday's 76ers begin a home-and-home set at the Wells Fargo Center on Friday night. Boston's Rondo leads the NBA with 12.8 assists per game while Holiday is averaging...

C’s interested in Dampier, haven’t called KMart

We all know the situation… Darko’s departure has left the Celtics with an open spot, and they are considering adding a big man to help their glaring need for some productive height that can help defend the rim and maybe… possibly… grab a freakin’ rebound. Everyone keeps bringing up Kenyon Martin’s name… Well… everyone except the Celtics. “At this stage, I think...

Taking Stock: Celtics – Timberwolves

After every game, we’ll take stock of how each individual performance affects the player’s overall value. Starters Offense:      Defense:      Overall: Like I said last night, The Wolves ran the same play 3 or 4 times in a row… a pick and roll with Ridnour… because Rondo got burned on it just about every time.  We’ve got to face facts that Rondo is just...
