The Atlanta Braves' lengthy winning streak is over. The NL East leaders will look to bounce back by ending their longest interleague road skid. Atlanta faces the Toronto Blue Jays and Mark Buehrle, the all-time interleague wins leader, in the opener of a four-game series Monday night. After outscoring opponents 47-21 in winning eight in a row, Atlanta (30-19) fell 4-2 to the New York Mets on Sunday. The Braves allowed three eighth-inning runs after Dan Uggla hit a two-run shot in the previous inning - his third homer in six games. The Braves can get back on track by stopping a five-game slide in AL parks. Their last interleague road series didn't go well, as they were outscored 25-7 in three losses to Detroit from April 26-28. Atlanta has dropped eight of 10 in Toronto, but none of those games came in the four seasons prior to this one. The Braves have won eight of the past nine matchups, though Toronto took the latest one 12-4 on June 10. Buehrle (1-3, 5.90 ERA), eyeing a 26th interleague victory, will face the Braves for the first time in a Blue Jays uniform. He went 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA in four starts against them last season while with Miami. The left-hander is looking for his first win in eight starts, though he turned in an encouraging outing Wednesday in a 4-3, 10-inning victory over Tampa Bay, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs. Toronto (21-29) has only lost once in his last four outings. "Listen, I'd like to be 5-1 right now. I'm not, I'm 1-3," Buehrle said. "But as long as we're winning my starts, I'm going out there giving our team a chance to win, that's all I can ask for." The Braves can't ask for much more from their rotation, which has posted a 1.66 ERA during the past nine games. That performance has been especially important with a bullpen that will be without Eric O'Flaherty and Jonny Venters for remainder of the season, and is waiting for the return of Jordan Walden and Luis Ayala. Tim Hudson (4-3, 4.98) is the lone member of the rotation that has struggled lately, going 0-2 with an 8.56 ERA in his last three starts. The right-hander did manage to work around a 76-minute rain delay to pitch five innings Tuesday in a 5-4, 10-inning win over Minnesota, allowing two runs. Hudson may have a good chance to get back on track Monday, as he's gone 11-3 with a 2.79 ERA in 16 starts against the Blue Jays. Colby Rasmus, older brother of Braves rookie reliever Cory Rasmus, is 5 for 11 with a home run off Hudson. Teammate Jose Bautista has gone 14 for 25 with two homers and five RBIs in the past six games. Bautista had a team-best two homers in three games against Atlanta in 2012. The Braves lead the NL with 65 home runs, while Buehrle's 11 homers allowed are among the most in the major leagues.

Braves B.J. Upton Benched?

Has B.J. Upton been benched? For the second game in a row and third in the past four, Braves center fielder B.J. Upton didn’t start.  According to a report by AJC beat writer, Dave O’Brien, Upton is sitting out to work on his swing. Saturday night against the Mets, Jason Heyward started in center.  Monday and Tuesday against the Blue Jays, Jordan Schafer started.  Tuesday...

Fredi Gonzalez Figures Out a Way

Tuesday night after Evan Gattis smashed a two-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth against the Twins to tie the game, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez talked about his need to get Gattis into the line-up. “We’ve got to either figure out a way to get to the American League where we can play him more, or for me to figure out a way to play him someplace,” Gonzalez said...

Mike Minor Q&A, Braves Nouveau Ace

Is Mike Minor the Braves ace? Braves starter Mike Minor is off to a great start with a 6-2 record and a 2.47 ERA so far this season.  Minor also has the fourth best ERA in Major League Baseball since the 2012 All-Star break. Minor has arguably become the Braves ace, and along with Kris Medlen and Julio Teheran gives the Braves a dynamic, young nucleus in the starting rotation. Mike...

Fantasy Baseball: What’s up with B.J. Upton?

Upton is known for his habit of going on long streaks of really good and really bad hitting, but even the most optimistic of owners are asking questions now that he has been slumping for almost two months. 15% of ESPN owners have already decided that they can’t take any more of his poor production and have dropped him to free agency. His sigh-inducing .151 avg. is just the beginning...

Minor homers, stifles Mets as Braves push streak to 8

The Braves picked up their eighth straight victory Saturday night, beating the Mets 6-0 in weather better suited for football or reading by a fire. Lambeau Field in December had nothing on Citi Field this Memorial Day Saturday. Fans broke out the mittens and ski caps and winds gusted upwards of 30 mph throughout the night. The temperature hit a high of 56, but the cold north wind...

Three Cuts: Blue Jays' 3 home runs help beat Braves 9-3

The Toronto Blue Jays jumped all over the Braves 9-3 in interleague play on Memorial Day. Here are three observations from the game: 1. Inserting a designated hitter into Atlanta's lineup has yet to work out With a lineup overloaded with powerful bats (namely at the catcher position), a common hypothetical emerged early on this season: What if the Braves were in the American...

Mike Minor Will Turn It Around Tonight

The Atlanta Braves and the New York Mets were left in suspended animation last night, but does anyone care? The Atlanta Braves, currently in first, have won six consecutive games. On the flip side, the New York Mets, currently in fourth (thanks to the Marlins being slightly worse), have lost six straight at home. Nonetheless, the teams had to wait until today before seeing if both...

Lost Lovvies

Actual conversation tonight. The loss of so many recent lovvies has been weighing on me lately... Thanks for trying to make me feel better, Michelle. :) But you know, those guys were SUPER Lovvies. And I know I still have a few Braves on the current roster who are high on the list... it's just tough when so many faves got traded / left in free agency / are injured.
