ST. FRANCIS, Wis. -- After drafting a long, defensive-minded big man in John Henson with their first pick, the Milwaukee Bucks went with pure offense in the second round, grabbing Kentucky sharpshooter Doron Lamb at No. 42.Lamb, who won a national championship as a college sophomore last season alongside Anthony Davis and the rest of the Wildcats, was Kentucky's second-leading scorer at 13.7 points per game. Lamb also made 46.6 percent of his 3-point shots and 82.6 percent of his free throws."To pick up a player like Doron Lamb, we're really excited," Bucks general manager John Hammond said. "He was one of the better shooters in this draft. We thought he would go in the first (round). We had him rated as a first-round pick."At only 20 years old, Lamb should make for a solid backup shooting guard in Milwaukee behind Monta Ellis. Lamb measured out at nearly 6-foot-5 in shoes at the NBA pre-draft combine. Hammond and coach Scott Skiles met with Lamb in Chicago at the combine and came away impressed."I told Scott I was a really big fan of his," Hammond said. "I also like the fact that, not only is he a shooter, he played a lot of point guard for (Kentucky). When (Marquis) Teague came out of the game, they put the ball in his hands."Lamb has drawn comparisons to the Bucks' 2009 second-round pick, Jodie Meeks. Though Meeks only spent half of one season in Milwaukee, he has since started 114 games at shooting guard with the Philadelphia 76ers."That's a great comparison," Hammond said. "He shoots the ball extremely well from 3-point range. I did have a chance to see Kentucky maybe four times this year. I don't think it's really a stretch, I think he can eventually be a combo guard in this league, and he's got good size to do so."Once the Bucks sign Henson and Lamb to their rookie contracts, Milwaukee's roster will have 12 guaranteed contracts, with a maximum of three more spots available to fill.Follow Paul Imig on Twitter.
