Washington Capitals fans must chuckle at the concept: The free-falling Carolina Hurricanes are eager to get Alexander Semin back in the lineup.Semin missed the last two games with an upper body injury. Coach Kirk Muller hopes his return sparks some offense for a team reeling from 12 losses in its last 13 games, including the last five in a row. As a Capital, Semin earned a reputation as a highly talented but lightly motivated player. Since coming to Carolina, though, Semin has excelled in all aspects of team play. He has 36 points and a plus-12 rating in 36 games this season. “Up until this stretch, we pretty much competed with everyone in the East,” Muller told the Raleigh News and Observer. “When we had an all 20 healthy guys, we were competitive with a lot of teams.“For now, it's safe to say when you're missing some key guys, a lot of players are playing above their roles. It's a domino effect. In hockey, you maneuver and tweak your lineup . . . and a lot of guys are ...

Woods opts for Hurricanes over Badgers

Chalk this one up in the surprise category as sophomore center Brendan Woods is forgoing the rest of his collegiate eligiblity to sign his contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. Just how surprising? Well, let's just say head coach Mike Eaves is less than pleased with the decision.  Eaves told the Wisconsin State Journal's Andy Baggot the following:  "I...

Explaining Jamie McBain's recent struggles

After going most of the season without a collective scapegoat, Hurricanes fans seemed to have found one in defenseman Jamie McBain. The entire team is struggling right now, but he has been taking a lot of heat from the fans ever since Carolina went on their brutal losing streak. The hate reached a new high after his brutal showing against the Winnipeg Jets two weeks ago where he...

Bruins’ Six-Goal Outburst Continues Streak of Offensive Dominance Over Carolina (Video)

In two games against the Carolina Hurricanes this season, the Bruins have scored 11 goals. After a five-goal effort in Raleigh back on Jan. 28, the B’s tallied a season-high six goals on Monday, routing the Canes 6-2 at TD Garden. David Krejci didn’t get on the scoresheet Monday night, but he played a major role in the teams’ first meeting, scoring the game-winning goal with...

Bruins Offense Comes Alive

The ailing Carolina Hurricanes visited North Station on Monday night and this would be a prime opportunity for Boston to regain some of their confidence. Wearing their all black alternates, the Bruins took to the ice welcoming back Alternate captain…

Game 39 by the Numbers: Penguins at Hurricanes

Since this is a little delayed, I figured that I should try out a new experiment with my statistical recaps instead of just going over the scoring chances. I usually track those every game and present them here to show who had the edge in the territorial battle, but that's only one part of what I've been tracking all season. One goal that hockey statisticians have aimed to...

Game 38 By the Numbers: Hurricanes at Bruins

Once again, the Canes were facing a team that did not bring their best game but were on the receiving end of another blowout loss because they could get a timely save from either of their goalies or buy a goal at the other end. This is the same thing that has happened to them over the last four weeks or so and the whole process is getting tiring because the outcome of most of their...

get off my lawn

We know it's Staals tonight but we won't be drinking. We have more than enough to deal with. Look at this sad sadness: We could drown our sorrows in vodka but we also might die.  Homemade french dip will probably alleviate the sorrow. MOST DOOMSAYINGEveryone hates the Canes and think they are awful, apparently.  Canes got an early PP after Engo fought some asshole...

Despite Defensive Struggles, Bruins Blow Away Hurricanes 6-2

Bruins 6, Hurricanes 2 Coming off a disappointing loss to the Canadiens in Montreal this weekend, the Bruins dug their skates back into the TD Garden ice in Boston and hosted the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night. This wasn’t exactly the same Bruins team that B’s fans had grown accustomed to seeing this season – Claude Julien orchestrated some major line shakeups prior to...

Divide & Conquer: Pens Take Atlantic Division.

With tonight’s passionate W over Carolina Hurricanes, the Pittsburgh Penguins have taken the Atlantic Division. I have been drinking Dr. Morgans (for those of you who don’t know, thats Dr. Pepper and spiced rum {specifically Captain Morgans, but doesn’t need to be,}) since about 5:30. So, needless to say, I’m feeling really damn good. However, aside…
