Kelly Olynyk‘s impressive showing during the Orlando Summer League drew high praise from experts around the league, but due to a sudden foot injury, the Celtics’ first-round draft pick will have to lay low for the remainder of the summer. Olynyk suffers from plantar fasciitis, which is an inflammation of the connective tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot. The injury will prevent the 22-year-old from participating in training camp with the Canadian national team, as they prepare for the FIBA Americas Championship. The injury serves as another road bump in what has been a turbulent offseason for the Celtics. Olynyk excelled while playing for the Celtics’ summer league team, averaging 18 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 58 percent from the field. The 7-footer will certainly play a prominent role during the 2013-14 “rebuilding” season for the Celtics if he can get healthy. Since the treatment for plantar fasciitis is rest, Celtics faithful can only hope the injury doesn’t linger on into the season and cause Olynyk to be sidelined for valuable game minutes. Olynyk was selected 13th overall in the 2013 NBA Draft out of the University of Gonzaga, where he led the nation in player efficiency rating among power forwards last season.
