It’s July 25th! Chicago Bears training camp has opened. Time to finally talk NFL football. And food of course. Can’t forget food. Meals at Chicago Bears training camp have been designed for each player’s specific position to meet their performance needs, and are colored coded to identify nutritional aspects like high-protein, low- and high- fat, or high-carb. With more than a decade of experience feeding the team at Chicago Bears Training Camp, their provider, Sodexo has developed a deep understanding of what the players need and expect. A few fun facts about previous years’ menu include: · The team eats a lot of meat and seafood including: 5,100 ribeye, 2,516 lbs of deli meat and 2,250 lbs of king crab legs. · The players and staff go through a lot of veggies, too, including: more than 1,000 lbs of lettuce, 510 lbs of tomatoes and 765 lbs of cucumbers. · The operation doesn’t just consist of three meals a day – meal preparation begins at 4am and wraps up around midnight each day with lots of snack breaks throughout the day. The players eat at the Res Hall cafeteria at Olivet Nazarene University. Who knew Chicago Bears Training Camp entailed so much work- in the food prep department too. Paul M.
