We've got some bigtime news at PSAMP. A local favorite, and I mean "local" in the weirdest sense of the word, has returned to bless the Penguins with a few wishes of his own. You know, I was so close to accepting a lost NHL season that the recent end to the lockout and imminent start to Pens season has me so fired up that I felt I needed to do something big. There was a time when the Penguins weren't getting bounced from the playoffs way early. A time where a team that lost in the SCF came back the next season with a fire in their eyes, and an intense mascot of sorts in Shenzhen, China. The Pens needed something extra to put them over the Eastern Confernece competition, as well as the Red Wings should they (they would) meet again. China Jack's video toasts became the stuff of legend, he greatly influenced the Cup in Pittsburgh's direction to anyone in the know. So I reached out to my old friend Jack, feeling tired of early playoff exits. This is not...

Penguins hoping a little defense goes a long way

There are few teams in hockey as loaded offensively as the Pittsburgh Penguins. The trouble for the Penguins is, there are plenty of teams better at the other end of the ice. Following two first-round playoff exits, including a six-game loss to Philadelphia last spring, Pittsburgh is hoping a renewed focus on defense will lead to the franchise's fourth Stanley Cup. The Penguins...

AUDIO: MALKIN "GETS IT," SPEAKS TO PRESS!!

After one whole day, Evgeni Malkin finally spoke to the press so the Beaver County Times can call off it's goons. Here is the video via the Pens: Malkin talked about how great it is to be back in Pittsburgh. Pretty boring interview. Sounds like Guy Junker asked a question that Malkin didn't understand. We didn't hear any whiny babies in the background so...

Alexei Kovalev nearing comeback

As the NHL teams scramble to shore up their rosters with big free agent acquisitions, trades, and releases of bad contracts, all to compete in a sprint to the playoffs, Alexei Kovalev doesn’t figure to make or break a team for the Stanley Cup, but is a great story nevertheless.  Kovalev appears near to signing a 1-year deal with the Florida Panthers to compete in his 19th season...

poll by twiigs.com Poll Results Forty-seven percent of voters believe Chris Kunitz should skate with Sidney Crosby and Pascal Dupuis. The number had been as high as 53 percent. The drop in the overall percentage is reflected in a jump for the option of using Kunitz on Crosby’s line sometimes and sometimes on Evgeni Malkin’s. That option moved up from 14 percent...

Healthy Crosby ready to catch fire

The headaches are gone. Finally. So are the doubts, the ones Sidney Crosby couldn't outrun as he rehabilitated from concussion-like symptoms that robbed hockey's best player from two years in the middle of his prime. It's no fun waking up the morning after a punishing workout and have your mind immediately drift to whether or not you'll end the day in a quiet room...

Tuesdays With Stoosh 1.15.2013

A conundrum, if you will...     If the Penguins have one major question mark heading into this season, it’s what the team brings back on the blueline. Kris Letang, Paul Martin and Brooks Oprik were 1-2-3 in terms of minutes per game among Pens defensemen last year and they all return. The trade of Zbynek Michalek back to Phoenix bumps Matt Niskanen into the top...
