When the Kentucky Wildcats take the floor against the SEC-leading Florida Gators at home Saturday night, they’ll be doing so against the No. 1 team in the nation – well, at least that’s what Coach Cal thinks. Calipari told reporters Friday that UF might just be the best team in the nation. He didn’t go as far as to say that they should be ranked No. 1, but he made it pretty clear how good he thinks they are. Per Rivals’ Aaron Smith: Calipari on Florida: “I would say there is an argument that they are the best team in the country.” — Aaron Smith (@ASmithRivals) February 14, 2014 Calipari: “This game will tell us where we are. I imagine they are coming in to not just win. They want to smash (us).” — Aaron Smith (@ASmithRivals) February 14, 2014 Sure, this is a little bit of “coach speak”, but Calipari is usually honest about what he thinks of both his team and his competition. As for whether he’s right – that’s up for debate. Syracuse is an obvious choice for No. 1 considering its undefeated record, but you could always argue that other teams are currently playing better. Florida, for the record, has lost just two games – to Wisconsin and UConn, two teams ranked at the time.
