Wow, what a game!
The Mets combined a solid start by Jeremy Hefner with a huge ninth inning rally and a clutch save by Frank Francisco to stun the Miami Marlins by a score of 5-3 on Saturday night.
After Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen pulled his ace Josh Johnson while in the midst of a three-hitter, the Mets came roaring back from the dead to score four runs in the ninth inning to wipe out a two-run deficit and take a two run lead heading into the bottom of the ninth when the Mets closer pitched a 1-2-3 inning to clinch the victory and guarantee another series win for the Mets. Thank you Ozzie, you have a friend in me…
Young righthander Jeremy Hefner, fresh off his solid start against the Astros, was in command tonight and delivered another quality start while holding the Marlins in check. Hefner threw six innings and gave up two runs on six hits while striking out four. He didn’t factor into the decision, but kudos to the kid for a job well done.
The Mets couldn’t muster much again...

Ramon Ramirez gets the Win but Jeremy Hefner earns a QS
The Mets used four pitchers last night and the one who likely did the worst job on the night – Ramon Ramirez – came away with the Win. That’s the way it goes sometimes because no statistic is perfect. The annoying thing is that many people will forgive the imperfections of certain stats, like Wins, yet are not willing to give other stats a chance because they focus only...

Dickey’s Complete Game Shutout Stumps the Marlins

Post Game: Mets 5 Marlins 3
Kelly Shoppach has been solid since coming to the Mets.
The Mets came back to win 5-3 against the Miami Marlins tonight. Jeremy Hefner threw 6 innings of two run ball en route to the victory. Manny Acosta added a scoreless inning of relief while Frank Francisco came on in the ninth and earned his 23rd save of the season.
The Mets had difficulty with Josh Johnson until Josh Thole...
Pre-Game: New York Mets (63-70) @ Florida MarLOLins (59-74)
And some Mets fans out there think Terry Collins should be fired? HA! What a job by Ozzie Guillen last night. MarLOLins Ace Josh Johnson, was mowing down Mets hitters all night and carried a 2-1 lead into the 9th inning. But as what has become a custom, the closer automatically was brought in to the 9th inning, to add to a meaningless stat. Johnson had only thrown 105 pitches...
Finding The Silver Lining In The Mets’ Second Half
A lot can be said about the culture of a franchise and what it can do to both the confidence of the players and the fan base. The best example unfortunately comes from the Bronx where we find the Yankees who are almost synonymous with winning. In Queens though, things never seem to go as well. I don’t want to flat out call it a culture of mediocrity, but watching the fan...
Thank Goodness September Is Here
Jenrry Mejia returns this September
As much as we all hoped the Mets would contend this season, we all had to know in the back of our minds that it was a long shot. They took us on a fun ride through the first half, but showed what they really were around the all-star break. Now it’s time to turn our attention to the September call-ups and the playoff chases down the stretch.

Jason Bay’s Grand Slam – The Shot Heard ‘Round SNY
It was great to see the Mets complete the sweep of the Miami Marlins after their 5-1 victory on Saturday, but what was with that over-the-top, public display of affection for Jason Bay on SNY afterward?

Game Preview: Mets @ Marlins
The Mets head down to Miami today to take on the Marlins in what will be an important series to stay out of the basement of the National League East. Going into yesterday’s game the Mets had a four game winning streak that was snapped even after a quality start of Jon Niese and the bullpen holding down the fort. Tonight R.A. Dickey takes the mound as he faces Nathan Eovaldi, who...
