MLB Injury News:
Chicago Cubs third baseman Ian Stewart is now officially
active. MLB.com's Carrie Muskat reports that Stewart completed his 20-day rehab assignment on May 3, and the Cubs
officially assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate Iowa Cubs. He began his
rehab on April 13.

Stewart will remain in Triple-A for now. In 13 games, he is hitting
just 4 for 44, which indicates he is not ready to return to the Majors. In
Stewart’s stead, the Cubs have a platoon at third base hitting .233 but leading the National League in home runs at the position with seven. It is also fifth in RBI
as play begins on May 6.
Stewart has not played in the Majors since early 2012. He
was returning from surgery to repair a wrist injury that hampered him since
2010 and caused him to miss most of last season. He spent the past offseason working
with Hall of Famer Rod Carew to regain his swing. During Spring Training, however,
Stewart strained his left quadriceps while running out a ground ball.
The Cubs are in dire need of offense, but if third base is
strong with the platoon of Luis Valbuena and Cody Ransom, then sticking with
them is the right move. There is currently no set time for Stewart to rejoin
the big club.

The Cubs have reinstated 3B Ian Stewart from the 15-day DL and optioned him to AAA Iowa.
Stewart suffered a strained quad in an intrasquad game in February, and missed the entire 2013 MLB Cactus League Spring Training schedule. He was placed on the Cubs MLB 15-day Disabled List on March 31st (retro to 3/22), and was left behind at Extended Spring Training when the Cubs left Arizona...
When playing for a team as hopeless as the Cubs, sometimes embellishing a bit to your advantage isn’t the worst idea.
That’s what Chicago center fielder Julio Borbon was thinking Thursday afternoon, at least, but his acting skills could use some serious work. When a pitch from San Diego’s Luke Gregerson landed in the dirt near his feet, Borbon hopped up and down as if the ball...
Just by taking the field today the Iowa Cubs snapped their three-game skid at the hands of Mother Nature. Then they proceeded to hand Oklahoma City its first loss in a week by whipping the Redhawks 5-2 in the first game of a twinbill at Principal Park with a little help from rehabbing Kyuji Fujikawa.

On Wednesday, Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts threatened to find a new home for the team if renovations plans for Wrigley Field were denied. On Thursday, the Schaumburg Boomers, an independent league baseball club who play their home games 25 miles west of Chicago, decided to strike while the iron was hot. The Boomers offered the Cubs a chance to play games at their home stadium should...
After Saturday’s loss, Chicago Cub fans have completely given up on Carlos Marmol, and manager Dale Sveum has been thrown into the fire right along with him. Fans are getting tired of seeing Marmol trotted out to the mound game after game, only to see him give fans heart attacks, and finding a way to grab defeat from the jaws of victory. They want Marmol gone from the team, and...

Darwin Barney of the Cubs got up and personal with a bench on Friday as he chased after a foul ball. The result was a pretty solid collision with a bench but the young man rubbed some dirt on it and he was fine.

When I think about great actors, I think about Warren Beatty, Tom Hanks, Rock Hudson and Julio Borbon?!?
During Thursday's Padres/Cubs affair at Wrigley, Borbon was facing Padres pitcher Luke Gregerson and pulled off one of the worst acting jobs in MLB history.
Watch as a Gregerson pitch goes a tad outside and fails to hit Bourbon but that doesn't stop Julio from acting...
The Cubs kicked off their 10-game home stand with a four-game series against the Padres. There were great outings by our starting pitchers, and by “our starting pitchers,” I mean the Cubs starting pitchers. Offensively, the Cubs seem to be getting more life, they finished off the month of April with 35 home runs, which is third in franchise history. Defensively they need...
Before yesterday's bottom of the ninth, Aroldis Chapman had allowed 5 hits, 2 walks, and 1 measly run over 13.1 IP. Friday, the Cubs got to him for 4 hits, 2 BB, and 3 runs in just two-thirds of an inning, and his ERA jumped from 0.68 to 2.57. It was also just the second time in 17 career appearances v. the Cubs that Chapman has been scored upon at all. Thus, I am counting yesterday...
The Cubs dropped thier third straight game yesterday. Two of the past three games where lost due to 4 run eighth inning. The bullpen has been the source of great frustration for the second straight start of a season, and I really don’t want to dwell on the obvious of Cubs need better relievers. Instead I want to talk about the #TeaseRally on Friday.
The Cubs were down four and...
Chicago Cubs pitcher Jeff Samardzija cut his hand open on a baseball, and that bloody ball was then sold at an auction for the Cincinnati Reds' charity.
John Polonius blasted a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the 4th to break a 4-4 tie and propel the Giants to a 6-4 victory on Field #1, and Jonathan Jones belted a two-run walk-off double off the LF fence on a 3-0 pitch with two outs in the bottom of the 5th as the Giants edged the Cubs 4-3 on Field #2 (thus sweeping the doubleheader), in Cactus League Extended...
