New England Patriots
Training camp and the preseason were good to the Detroit Lions. They came out of it with a nice idea of the strengths and weaknesses of the position groups and most importantly, healthy. Though the preseason isn’t over, training camp is done and it is time to analyze what it means going forward to the regular season.5. Rookies will play a contributing roll this season. The preseason proved to be interesting for the 2013 rookie class. There are several rookies that made an impression and can likely make the team. First is Darius Slay. Slay started against the Patriots and was effective from the start. Tom Brady was unable to score a touchdown on the Lions first team defense and Slay had a hand in it. It will be nice to see if he can make an immediate impact in the unproven Lions secondary. Next is Joseph Fauria. The undrafted tight end from UCLA took the most snaps for the offense against the Patriots. He has racked up five catches for 56 yards and a touchdown this preseason and has l...
BEST OF MAXIM
When the Detroit Lions took the field against the New England Patriots, Detroit’s quarterbacks were determined to show that last week’s farce in Cleveland was merely a hiccup and not a sign of things to come. But Shaun Hill was to be held out of the game, so for Kellen Moore a little extra was on the line. When the bell rang, he came out fighting.
Moore is not only battling...
The Detroit Lions claimed two spots in Greg Bedard’s preseason Week 3 “10 Things I Think” on Sports Illustrated’s The MMQB. Bedard served up high praise for Lions’ third-string QB Kellen Moore … and railed on the team’s overall mentality in a 40-9 win over the Patriots.
Of Moore, Bedard wrote in part:
I think Lions backup quarterback Kellen Moore is going to play for...
Jim Schwartz of the Detroit Lions has to be ready to gnaw his own leg off. But that would probably be after he chewed on the posterior of DE Willie Young. Players are like grand kids; if one isn’t dumping the potty chair contents onto the bathroom floor, the other is pouring maple syrup on top of the dog.
Schwartz and several team mates were visibly irritated by Young’s...
The Detroit Lions used a fourth-round draft pick on Ronnell Lewis last year.
Rather, they wasted one.
Lewis, an undersized 6-foot-2, 253-pound defensive end, is one of four players released Sunday by the Lions to cut their roster to 80 players. The club must trim down to 75 by Tuesday at 4 p.m.
The other players who failed to make the most recent cut were safety Chris Hope, cornerback...
NEED FOR SPEED
Reggie Bush nearly broke a short pass for a touchdown against the Patriots, but he was angry he got caught after a 67-yard gain.
As a Detroit Lions fan I am very familiar with the personnel and the offensive scheme.
The Lions have one legit WR, he just happens to be the best in the game. They cannot run the ball, period. Their offense consists of Stafford taking the snap in the shotgun position, looking for CJ down field and then dumping off to the RB.
This gameplan could result in Reggie breaking...
After the Detroit Lions went a disappointing 4-12 last season, they will need to step up as a team to bounce back this season. Of course, we all know it’s a given that Calvin Johnson will have another great season barring any injuries. I also expect Reggie Bush to have a great season in his first year as a Lion. He’s going to be a big threat coming out of the backfield both as...
Jason La Canfora reports that the Detroit Lions are in the process of making calls to acquire a starting-caliber wide receiver.
Many expected second-year receiver Ryan Broyles to setup and be the team’s No. 2 wideout this season, but he was running with the second-team offense during Thursday’s preseason game.
Detroit still has veteran Nate Burleson and second-year WR Patrick...
ALLEN PARK, Mich. Willie Young Mr. August taunting a future Hall of Fame quarterback.
Whats wrong with that picture?
Young, a defensive end for the Detroit Lions who was a star in the preseason last year but a flop in the regular season, wouldnt disclose what he said late in the first half of Thursdays exhibition game to draw a personal-foul penalty or why he did it.
Former Detroit Lions wide receiver Titus Young is expected in court for a pre-trial hearing related to an 11-count criminal case filed earlier this year.
The hearing Tuesday in an attempted burglary case comes after Young was a no-show at an earlier hearing.
The 24-year-old former NFL player faces four felonies and seven misdemeanors stemming from a May 10 attempted burglary in...
Detroit defensive end Willie Young says he'll avoid penalties that hurt his team after taunting New England quarterback Tom Brady.
Young's taunt resulted in a 15-yard penalty in the Lions' 40-9 win against the Patriots in a preseason game on Thursday night.
After hurrying Brady into an incompletion in the New England end zone, Young grabbed Brady by the collar and said...
An arrest warrant has been issued for Titus Young after the former Detroit Lions wide receiver missed his fourth court hearing on attempted burglary charges.
An Orange County judge issued the warrant on Tuesday and revoked bail after a meeting in chambers with Young's attorney Altus Hudson.
The lawyer says he doesn't expect his client to be arrested anytime soon, however...
