Feelin' Kinda Blue:
The new international signing period begins Tuesday (July 2) and the
Dodgers have been tied to one player who could garner a bonus of more than a
Lucas Tirado, a shortstop from the Dominican Republic, is
the guy the Dodgers reportedly have an eye on. Kiley McDaniel of Scouting
Baseball projects the Dodgers to ink Tirado to a $1.2 million bonus. He also
ranks Tirado as the 14th-best prospect available.
Tirado, 16, is a shortstop for now, but Matt Garrioch of
Minor League Ball thinks he might have to move off the position eventually. He
lists second base and left field as possibilities. I’d be perfectly fine if
Tirado ended up as a second baseman.
Garrioch also had this to say about Tirado:
“Interesting hitter. Polished. Not sure he can stick at SS.
Might be a LF/2B.”
Tirado’s a lefty swinger with decent bat speed. He isn’t the
fleetest of foot, which could lead to a position change. Tirado’s hit tool is
his best, with everything e...

WHO'S LAUGHING NOW?
Jonathan Papelbon offered a harsh opinion about whether Yasiel Puig should make the NL All-Star team. See what he had to say.
Los Angeles Dodgers rookie sensation Yasiel Puig put together a historically dominant month, and this epic highlight video proves exactly that.
Jon Heyman provides his latest rumors update from Dodgertown.
Heyman says that the Dodgers are still considered the front-runners in the Ricky Nolasco talks, but the Orioles, Giants, Rangers, and Rockies are among the teams also in the mix. The Dodgers have been considered the favorite since they seem to be the only team willing to absorb the entire portion of the $5.75MM remaining...
I recently acquired the signature of one of the greatest Dodgers to wield a bat in franchise history. His signature had alluded me for quite some time, and unfortunately he didn't play with the club for all that long, so options were rather limited. But more important than that was my desire for the card to be hard-signed.Thankfully, eBay came to the rescue. For $8.49 delivered...
The Dodgers had to pay a lot to get Puig. They wanted to protect their investment so bad that even though he crushed the ball during spring training they sent him down to the minors in hopes he would mature. A bad season and injuries forced them to call him up earlier than they wanted.
And the rest has become history.
When the youngster was called up...
Currently the topic of some heated debate here on Baseball Professor, some of us are all in on Yasiel Puig as a rare type of player, while others are screaming regression. His .436 batting average is the highest in any month among all first-year players since 1916 (min. 100 plate appearances), and Puig also joined Joe DiMaggio as the only players in baseball history to collect at...
The boys in blue are set to open the month of July on Tuesday. Tomorrow is an off-day as they prepare for an important series on the road Tuesday against the Colorado Rockies. The Dodgers finish up the month of June with a record of 14-13, their best month of 2013 so far. A big part of that has been Yasiel Puig, this guy is breaking all kinds of rookie records. The next two weeks...
(Reed Saxon / Associated Press)Former Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett will have season-ending surgery next week to regain feeling in his right hand. Beckett has had a tingling sensation in the fingers of his pitching hand for much of this year. He had been rehabbing for about a month in hopes that the condition would pass. On Friday, he threw on flat ground and the tingling was still...
The Dodgers traded for exiled Cubs closer Carlos Marmol this morning, sending Matt Guerrier to Chicago. Today is a somber day for Cubs' fans. The team DFA'd Marmol a few days ago, but many expected him to simply end up in Iowa because no-one would claim him on waivers. No-one claimed Marmol's massive contract, but the Dodgers traded for him and cash before he had any...
The best start of Stephen Fife‘s season propelled the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 6-0 win on Sunday over the Philadelphia Phillies. With the win, L.A. took three of the four games in the weekend series.
Things were quiet until the fourth, when the Dodgers broke out against Kyle Kendrick for two runs: Yasiel Puig reached on an infield single, stole second and scored on an RBI single...
For one night, the conversation wasn't all about rookie sensation Yasiel Puig.
Granted, the Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder did have another stellar game, which is pretty much the standard these days. But Clayton Kershaw accomplished what few have been able to do lately - he stole some of Puig's spotlight.
Kershaw tossed a four-hitter for his second shutout of the season...
The Dodgers completed a somewhat controversial swap of DFA’d relief pitchers today, sending Matt Guerrier to the Chicago Cubs for Carlos Marmol and cash considerations.

The surging Los Angeles Dodgers are back in the race thanks largely to Yasiel Puig.
The Colorado Rockies' Michael Cuddyer has turned heads of late, too.
Puig and the visiting Dodgers look to keep rolling while Cuddyer tries to extend the longest hitting streak in franchise history Tuesday night.
Los Angeles (38-43) enters this three-game set seeking a ninth win in 10 games...
I know what you’re thinking, “No, not another story about Yasiel Puig.” While yes, he is currently all the rage in Major League Baseball, this is not another story about Yasiel Puig, but about what he and a couple of other young players represent: a new wave of super-athletes in baseball.
A look at current and historic stats would argue that Puig is only the most recent...
