Brad Ausmus Takes Ely out of the game after surrendering 7 runs in 4 2/3 innings
It was Brad Ausmus first try as a manager and I believe he could be a good one, but John Ely who has been horrible since coming up from AAA just couldn’t keep the ball in the park against the Arizona Diamondbacks. “They jumped on him early and he seemed to settle down after that,” said Ausmus when asked about Ely’s performance “But the two-run homer by LaRoche was the big blow. At 5-0 that early in the game we still felt like we could come back.”
In this his last season, Ausmus is ready to go, and knows that others feel the same way about his career “I think you’d find a lot of people that would tell you I overstayed my welcome at the major league level anyway,” he said.
The Dodgers would score 5 runs but the damage was done and it’s hard to come back from a 7-1 deficit.
