The Los Angeles Dodgers were once again without outfielder Matt Kemp yesterday due to a left shoulder injury, but manager Don Mattingly told Ken Gurnick of MLB.com that they are expecting him to rejoin the lineup today when the team begins its series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. "We feel like he'll be ready to go tomorrow," Mattingly said before Sunday's series finale vs. the Giants. "I'm not sure if he'll hit today, but everything that I heard is that he'll be ready to roll tomorrow." Kemp was forced to exit Friday night’s win over the Giants after experiencing discomfort in his shoulder. Specifically, Kemp was battling pain in his acromioclavicular joint – where the collarbone meets the shoulder – an injury suffered while he swung and missed in the second inning of Friday’s contest. There was immediately concern surrounding the pain, as Kemp underwent surgery in the shoulder last year to repair torn cartilage and rotator cuff fraying. However, after speaking with Adrian Gonzalez and Hanley Ramirez – veterans who have also undergone the surgery – Kemp believes that scar tissue is resulting in the pain. The Dodgers have treated the ailment by giving Kemp a cortisone injection. They are hoping this reduces the inflammation and resulting discomfort. Considering the Dodgers have fellow outfielders Carl Crawford, Andre Ethier and Yasiel Puig on the roster, they could more easily afford to give Kemp a few nights off to rest his shoulder. Might Matt Kemp's injury not even matter to the surging Dodgers?

Writing the Los Angeles Dodgers off in April (as some may have done) was probably a mistake, if for no other reason than it was so early in the schedule. There was so much more baseball to be played.  We also didn't know how the Dodgers' competition in the NL West would play. The Diamondbacks, Rockies and Giants had a chance to bury the Dodgers after they had dug such...
