Ken Rosenthal published a report yesterday mentioning that ESPN columnist and occasional on-air personality Keith Law had interviewed to become the scouting director for the Houston Astros under new GM Jeff Luhnow, the former scouting director for the St Louis Cardinals.

Prior to working for ESPN, Law was a special assistant to the GM in Toronto under JP Ricciardi, ironically a colleague of Law's at ESPN now.

Personally, Law is one of my favorite ESPN personalities. His unabashed honesty is pleasant in the era of political correctness. Law's specialty at ESPN is in the scouting field, a field that is lacking at the worldwide leader after the departure of Jason Grey a few short weeks ago.

Law has stated in the past that if he were to take a front office job and leave the media world, he'd like to enter a situation where the organization was completely starting over. With Luhnow's entrance in Houston, as well as new owner Jim Crane's purchase of the team and the shift to the AL West, this seems to be an ideal situation for Law.

If Law is indeed offered the job, his blend of sabermetric and scouting knowledge would be beneficial to a Houston organization that has suffered through years of awful draft classes with former GM Ed Wade, enabled by former owner Drayton McClane's refusal to go over slot on draft choices.  Houston's potential gain would be ESPN's loss.
