Photo via cusebaby.com Just in time for the Orange’s NCAA Tournament run, former Syracuse resident Joe Simiele, aka Joey Simz, released a rap about his love for the Syracuse Orange. The track, titled “I Bleed Orange”, chronicles the life of one of the biggest Orange fans out there. His first words were ‘Jimmy B’, he sang the Fight Song from inside the womb and skipped over the number 1 when learning numbers, going directly to 2-3 (Get it? It’s the zone the basketball team plays).  But the musician, Joey Simz, now lives out on the West Coast in Oakland, CA. He makes sure he gets out to a Syracuse game around Christmas every year.  “Last year, however, I got booked for a show in San Francisco from November through January of this year,” he said. “For the first time in my life, I wouldn’t be going home for the holidays and I wouldn’t get to see my beloved Syracuse Orange.” But Simiele didn’t give up. Luckily for him, the basketball team travelled out to California this year for the Battle on the Midway and he was able to get front row seats. He even made it back to New York for Syracuse’s last trip to the Big East Tournament. It must have been pricey to get back to the East Coast but for Simiele, it didn’t matter.  “Worth. Every. Penny.”  And it still wasn’t over. Another stroke of luck came Simiele’s way as Syracuse was sent back out to California for the team’s first two games of the NCAA Tournament. It was yet another dream come true. His love for the Orange is obvious when listening to the lyrics of the song, but when I interviewed him, that Orange pride bled out even more when talking about Syracuse making the Final Four.  “That’s what the “I Bleed Orange” anthem is all about,” he said about the Final Four trip.  It’s for all of those people who dedicate so much to the basketball team. He referenced the people with closets full of Orange, the true fans. He talked about the need to see Jim Boeheim smile while posing with the National Championship trophy. Being in the Final Four means so much to fans like Simiele and Joey Simz tries to verbalize that with his track that he produced himself.  He hopes the song inspires fans to cheer along tonight.
