First Impressions

Posted August 10, 2012

Stopping the run was an issue the first pre-season game, but they did manage to keep the Steelers at a 3.4 yard avg (including that 33 yard scamper). Not HORRIBLE by any stretch of the imagination, but the Eagles definitely need to improve.

I'm not worried about Vick and Co and the first string offense struggling the first pre-season. But I do think that the absence of Cole, Babin, Patterson and sometimes Jenkins has been a MAJOR blessing. Our defensive line is looking to be the best in the NFL. I've can't recall the Eagles having this much depth at the DE/DT position EVER. The injuries have given valuable reps to players who could use the work (Graham, Curry, Cox, Thorton, Hunt etc) and it showed in last nights game (hurries/sacks were off the charts good).

QB Nick Foles was the pleasant surprise of the night with his arm strength and touch on the deep ball. As well as the play of WR Darius Johnson in the receiving/return game. Running back Bryce Brown showed his potential and is pulling away from Chris Polk for the 3rd string RB spot. The offensive line also did a good job with the Pittsburgh blitz (which they did a LOT of) and that is also encouraging.

I'm looking forward to more production coming from the starters on offense the next game and WR McNutt making his presence felt (he did make a fantastic block on that long Bryce Brown run btw). Also it will be interesting to see if O.J. Atogwe gets more reps in the next game. While Jaquwan Jarret was ehh.. I think his bad angles and his missed assignments were glaring. Also RB Deon Lewis should be more productive during the pre-season as it wears on.

Excited for the season! Still needs some work but a good start thus far. Stay Tuned!
