Minnesota Timberwolves 110, Boston Celtics 100 The Celtics headed to Minnesota for a match against the Timberwolves following a blowout loss last night against the New York Knicks. Paul Pierce was not available for the team, as announced yesterday, the captain sat out for personal reasons. To start the game, Avery Bradley and Courtney Lee had a difficult time guarding Ricky Rubio, who forced four early turnovers. Shavlik Randolph, who has been performing well for the C's as of late, made an early entrance in place of Chris Wilcox and also had a difficult time stopping the Rubio-Nikola Pekovic duo. Pekovic, a former Celtic, went 4-for-5 on shooting in the beginning minutes of the first quarter for Minnesota. The C's stayed close behind Minnesota for the majority of the first quarter despite Pekovic's 15 first-quarter points. Boston did well guarding the 3-point line, holding the Wolves to 0-for-5 shooting from behind the arc. Though he has been struggling offensively as o...

Paul Pierce a game-time decision tonight against the Detroit Pistons

No KG or Pierce at Celtics shootaround this morning. Pierce remains game-time decision vs. DET, according to the team.55 minutes ago via EchofonReplyRetweetFavorite@ESPNForsbergChris ForsbergStrangely enough, I think the Celtics will pull this win out, regardless of Pierce’s playing status.  Boston has lost seven of its last nine games and is 0-2 against the pesky Pistons (not...

Pierce could sit against the Timberwolves

The already battered Celtics could be without their captain against Minnesota Monday night. According to ESPN's Chris Forsberg, Paul Pierce turned his ankle in the first quarter which forced him to sit out the final 13 minutes of the Celtics' 108-89 loss to the Knicks Sunday. Pierce was seen on the bench with an ice pack taped to his right ankle. From Forsberg's piece...

Doc Rivers: Paul Pierce will "for sure" play Wednesday night vs. Detroit

Last night Paul Pierce missed just his second game in what has been a remarkable 15th pro season. The Celtics fell to 0-2 without him, losing to two inept basketball teams (Charlotte and Minnesota) by a combined 38 points in those games. Pierce tweaked his ankle in the Celtics blowout loss to the Knicks on Sunday night, but Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that Pierce sat out for...

Wolves Saturday: Pekovic sidelined

MINNEAPOLIS The Timberwolves will be without Nikola Pekovic on Saturday against the Grizzlies. The center tested his ankle during warmups but will sit due to a left ankle sprain he sustained during Friday night's game. After the win over Oklahoma City, Pekovic said his foot and ankle were feeling all right, but he received treatment that night and then was a late scratch for...

Wolves Monday: Pekovic back in lineup

MINNEAPOLIS Nikola Pekovic will play for the Timberwolves Monday night against Boston after missing Saturday's game against Memphis with a sprained left ankle. Coach Rick Adelman said he's hardly surprised by Pekovic's quick return and that the big man was pretty close to being able to play Saturday. "He said the other night that he just couldn't loosen it...

Exhausted Pierce, Celtics Drop Second Straight To Knicks

Knicks 108, Celtics 89 For the second time this week, the Celtics (38-35) were unable to compete with a team that now owns the longest streak in the NBA. The Knicks (46-26) won their eighth straight on Sunday night as they steamrolled through a porous C’s defense. Boston played well enough on the offensive end, but Without Kevin Garnett in the lineup, they were simply unable to...

Pekovic hammers Celtics in Minnesota's 110-100 win

Nikola Pekovic bruised and battered the overmatched Boston front line for 29 points to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 110-100 victory over the Celtics on Monday night. Andrei Kirilenko had 17 points, nine rebounds and five assists, and Dante Cunningham scored 19 points off the bench for the Wolves, who delivered coach Rick Adelman his 998th career victory. Avery Bradley scored...

With or Without Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Celtics Have More Important Things to Worry About Than Playoff Seeding

There are eight games left in the regular season for the Celtics, and the fourth seed is not officially out of reach. To put their plight in the rosiest terms possible, another flurry of strong play to close out the season’s final month could possibly put the Celtics back in the discussion for a top-four seed and home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Possible...

Recap: Pekovic, Wolves shred defenseless Celtics

For the first time since they gave us Kevin Garnett, the Minnesota Timberwolves have beaten the Celtics.  They did it by feeding Nikola Pekovic early and often, and then feasting on the Celtics mistakes.  Wolves take it 110-100. The Celtics kept nipping and tucking and making it feel like they had a shot, but every time they got close, the Wolves would whip off another run to put...

Welptics: New York Knicks crush Boston Celtics 108-89

Melo and the Knicks punished Boston from 3-point range.Few things are as aggravating as hearing an opposing crowd chant “Bos-ton sucks,” but one thing that’s worse is knowing that they aren’t wrong. The Celtics, for lack of a better descriptor, sucked tonight. Aside from Jeff Green (and Chris Wilcox on two field goal attempts), no one shot above 50% from the field. The Celtics...

Pistons-Celtics Preview

The Boston Celtics are limping toward the playoffs, and they're fully aware improvement is necessary to have any success in the postseason. Their recent performances versus the Detroit Pistons shouldn't be used as an example. Boston has a chance to clinch a playoff berth and will have Paul Pierce back in the lineup as it looks to avoid a fifth consecutive loss to visiting...

Weekend Update: Thunder split games up north

I'll be honest. The Madness got the best of me. Who could pass up on some of the match-ups this past weekend? While the Thunder are getting down to the nitty-gritty of their final push for the top seed, they didn't do too much to alarm me. However, here's a few things I'll say about Oklahoma City's weekend. First off, I watch a lot of basketball. It did not...
