Gareth Bale was involved in all three goals Wednesday as Tottenham beat Liverpool 2-1 to end the visitors' eight-match Premier League unbeaten run.
The Spurs winger eluded several defenders after collecting the ball in his own half before crossing inside the box for Aaron Lennon to tap in at the far post in the seventh minute at White Hart Lane.
Bale's swerving free kick then gave Spurs a 2-0 lead by the 16th.
It took a freakish goal to get Liverpool back in the match. Steven Gerrard headed on a corner to Lennon on a post, but his attempted clearance smashed Bale in the face and the ball ricocheted into the net in the 72nd.
Spurs is only five points out of the Champions League spots. Liverpool stay in 11th place.

It's been fitting for Tim Duncan to be reaching milestones at the end of his career. He's become the San Antonio Spurs all time points leader and broke the NBA's record for all time playoff blocks. So it was fitting for Duncan to reach another milestone: 2,500 career blocks.
This block wasn't just an ordinary block though. It was more of a “I hope no one has...
NBA Commissioner David Stern says the San Antonio Spurs will be hit with ''substantial sanctions'' for their decision to send four regulars home before their game in Miami on Thursday night.
Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green were sent home by San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich, who cited a desire to get them rest at the end of a long road trip...
MIAMI (AP) -- San Antonio is playing at Miami on Thursday night without Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Danny Green, who were sent home by Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to rest.
Duncan, Parker and Green are starters. Ginobili is the team's top reserve.
Popovich says the decision was made when he saw the schedule, and that it had nothing to do with facing the Heat. Thursday...

The San Antonio Spurs once again are looking like one of the few teams in the mix for the NBA Championship this season, currently possessing a 12-3 record after a victory over the hapless Wizards on Monday night. But despite their impressive start, unselfish play, and remarkable consistency, the...

The San Antonio Spurs receiving the “substantial sanctions” statement
from David Stern last night seems puzzling. With just over a year
until retirement, Stern continues to lay down the law by making slightly
questionable decisions which keep adding up. The Spurs resting Tim Duncan, Tony
Parker, Manu Ginobli, and Danny Green against Miami rattled...
MIAMI Had the Miami Heat lost Thursday, perhaps David Stern would have fined them.
Or maybe somebody else would have.
Itd have been embarrassing, Heat center Chris Bosh said of possibly falling to Spurs Lite. The coaches probably would have fined us.
In a very bizarre night in the NBA, the Heat prevented it from becoming even more odd by defeating undermanned San Antonio 105...
The San Antonio Spurs are a deep team that keeps winning. When a team is winning, there's rarely anyone that's going to complain about anything, maybe playing time if there are players with egos. The Spurs are lucky to have players who put team first over self during the Tim Duncan era and this year is no different. Frenchmen Boris Diaw (playing in his first full season as...
San Antonio Spurs (13-3) vs. Miami Heat (10-3)
Um, so this game got a lot less interesting.
I mean, it might be fun to watch because Charles Barkley is calling the game, but Gregg Popovich's decision to send Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili home to end this road trip for San Antonio takes a lot of the juice out of this game. This is not a 13-3 Spurs...
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- Manu Ginobili had 20 points, Gary Neal scored 19 and the San Antonio Spurs earned their fifth straight win, racing past the Orlando Magic 110-89 on Wednesday night.
Tim Duncan added 15 points in 27 minutes and Tony Parker chipped in 14 points and eight assists.
The Spurs also posted their eighth consecutive victory on the road and have now beaten the Magic...

The Miami Heat are off to their best home start in franchise history, which may not be encouraging for a San Antonio Spurs team that has been routed in its last two trips to South Beach.
San Antonio, though, has a run of its own going, too.
Miami seeks to remain unbeaten at home while the Spurs look to complete a perfect six-game...
Tonight, the Magic take on the Spurs who are very much the forerunners and the model of what the Magic are trying to do in the post-Dwight Howard reality. These two teams right now are on opposite ends of the spectrum as far as championship expectations. The Magic though showed Sunday that you have to play the games and anything can happen. Orlando will certainly feel like it can...
No one could've thought the San Antonio Spurs would come out firing in a blowout against the Washington Wizards on Monday night after a double overtime game against the Toronto Raptors. With an older "Big 3," most might have expected the Spurs to fold this game and give the Wizards their first win (now 0-12). Instead, they come out energized as if they had a day off...
The NBA plans to make San Antonio pay for resting four stars.
The Miami Heat almost could not.
Ray Allen's 3-pointer with 22.6 seconds left gave the Heat the lead, LeBron James finished with 23 points and the Heat rallied late to beat the Spurs 105-100 on Thursday night - needing to dig deep despite San Antonio's decision to have four standouts resting at home in a move...
See! Luis Suarez isn’t the only one who can score goals for Liverpool… at least not when Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale are left to dispatch a loose ball in front of their own goal anyway.
In an extremely unfortunate turn of events at White Hart Lane, Lennon somehow managed to clear a rather ordinary Liverpool attempt right into Gareth Bale’s face and then immediately into the...
