New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips has had microfracture surgery on his left knee and will have to wait about five months before he can start to run. Phillips, who was placed on injured reserve last week with patellofemoral arthritis, had the surgery on Tuesday. "I know that the doctors felt good about it," coach Tom Coughlin said Thursday. "So we are very, very hopeful and optimistic." Phillips said on his Web site that Dr. James Andrew performed the surgery in Alabama.
