Found July 17, 2012 on Fox Sports Midwest:
MILWAUKEE -- Tyler Greene arrives at the ballpark each afternoon, walks by the lineup posted on the wall and glances to see if his name is there. More times than not of late, Greene has been left with the same answer: nope. But for the first time since July 3 and just the fifth time since June 19, Greene likely stopped to double check Tuesday's lineup card. He was in there, batting eighth and playing second base against Brewers lefty Randy Wolf. It's been a struggle for Greene, who entered Tuesday's game hitting .224 in 65 games this year and has found it tough to find playing time to try and work out of his skid at the plate. "It's out of my control," Greene said. "I just come to the park ready to go and if my name is in the lineup I'm ready, and if not, I'm ready for any situation that arises. I'm trying to keep it as simple as that. "I think any single one of us that comes to the park wants to be in the game and wants to play an...

What does the Trevor Rosenthal promotion mean?

As many St. Louis Cardinals fans already know, right-handed pitching prospect Trevor Rosenthal has been promoted from Double-A Springfield to the big league bullpen. Maikel Cleto was optioned to Memphis, with Jaime Garcia being moved to the 60-day disabled list to clear a 40-man roster spot. The unusual move has led to a number of questions today, so I decided to jot down my thoughts...

Cardinals last at-bat road comeback wins

On one hand, the game of baseball is very simple – throw, hit and run. Yet the statistics behind the game – what help make it so compelling for some – can become complex very quickly. I was reminded of this after Monday night’s comeback win by the St. Louis Cardinals. The road club scored three in the top of the ninth to defeat Milwaukee, 3-2. I was simply curious as to how...

After ejection, Lance Berkman trashes umpire

Lance Berkman has struggled since his return from the disabled list. The switch-hitting slugger has started just one game since his return and is hitless in six plate appearances, striking out three times. Berkman served as a pinch hitter in the St. Louis Cardinals 3-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night. Berkman struck out on a check swing call made by home plate umpire...

Wezen-Ball: The 1930 Cardinals Telegram Mystery by Larry Granillo

On September 9, 1930, the St. Louis Cardinals, helmed by skipper Gabby Street, found themselves tied for second place, 2.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs. That morning, Street received a telegram that read: Do not worry, you will lose today, regardless of your pitching choice; you will win the next three. That afternoon, the Cards lost to the Giants 2-1 before winning the next...

Sunday night, they finally pulled the trigger. Rosenthal was summoned into the manager's office after Double-A Springfield's 8-6 victory Sunday night and told he had been promoted...

Cardinals monitoring pitching market

It’s no secret that the Cardinals could use another starting pitcher. Right-hander Chris Carpenter is out for the season. Left-hander Jaime Garcia remains sidelined with a left shoulder sprain. The team, while frustrated by the high asking prices for starting pitchers, continues to perform its due diligence in the pitching market, monitoring both starters and relievers, according...

Cards hope comeback is sign of things to come

MILWAUKEE Time will tell whether or not the three-run ninth inning Monday night will prove to be a turning point for the slumping St. Louis Cardinals. But desperate for a big hit after getting swept in Cincinnati, they'll gladly take it. Down to their last out and looking at a frustrating fourth-straight loss ahead of them, the Cardinals instead rallied for three runs off Brewers...
