Halladay will have surgery in the near future. (CSN) Roy Halladay addressed the media in San Francisco today following his visit with Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles yesterday. The results were not great, but also, as of now, not career threatening. Halladay announced he has bone spurs, a frayed labrum, and a partially-torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, with surgery to follow. Doc mentioned it could be somewhere in the range of three months if everything goes as planned. So, in essence, it’s bad, but not as bad as it could be. I think realistically, pitching again this season seems like an outside chance. Much depends on what they’ll find once they get in there. So it’s again a waiting game. Halladay at least seems optimistic that his career can be saved, but again, they’ll know more after surgery. What that means for his time in Philadelphia is also an unknown. He is a free agent after the season and did not address what would happen next year until he knows the extent of the injury. However, it’s very possible we could have seen Roy Halladay pitch for the final time with the Phillies – and in a 14-2 loss to the Marlins, no less. We certainly hope that is not the case. As for his spot in the rotation, for the time being it will be Tyler Cloyd, but Ruben Amaro did say that with John Lannan’s impending return, he’s unsure if they will acquire another arm. Here are some live-tweets during the media session: Halladay will have surgery – clean up bone spurs, rotator cuff. Keeps using “clean up”. Could pitch again this year. No time on surgery yet. — Pat Gallen (@PatGallen_975) May 8, 2013   “Definitely optimistic” I will be back this year, says Roy. But they’ll be smart throughout process. — Pat Gallen (@PatGallen_975) May 8, 2013 Said he hasn’t felt a lot of pain during this because everything around shoulder area is strong. — Pat Gallen (@PatGallen_975) May 8, 2013 Halladay says it’s a partially torn rotator cuff. Went into meeting with docs open minded, unsure if his career could be over. — Pat Gallen (@PatGallen_975) May 8, 2013   “As soon as possible” on surgery, meaning not waiting a month. But they’ll do homework and make decision – guessed some time next week. — Pat Gallen (@PatGallen_975) May 8, 2013 Positive is that it’s a “scope, a clean up” which is better than full-on rotator cuff surgery, which has low success rate. — Pat Gallen (@PatGallen_975) May 8, 2013 Halladay on whether he was afraid he was done: “I couldn’t understand why my location was so poor. So I really didn’t know what to think.” — Jayson Stark (@jaysonst) May 8, 2013   The rotator cuff is not fully torn, which was worst-case scenario. Still, a difficult recovery ahead. — Matt Gelb (@magelb) May 8, 2013 Since you saw presser: Rube says hasn’t thought too far ahead abt Roy’s future w/ Phils. Keeping options open for replacement in meantime. — Chris Branch (@ChrisBranchTNJ) May 8, 2013   If you take the ultimate best case scenario (3 mon.), Halladay would come back in mid-August. And that’s before trying to build arm strength — Kevin Cooney (@KevinCooney) May 8, 2013 Doc was told he’s had this injury for years and surgery could turn back the clock 2-3 years with velocity and location — John Clark NBC10 (@johnclarknbc10) May 8, 2013 Amaro said he will look externally for pitching help, but said John Lannan will be back. He could be Doc’s replacement. — Todd Zolecki (@ToddZolecki) May 8, 2013
