You know the world is a messed up place when the middle of the Mets order all goes deep in the biggest ballpark in the free world. But judging by zoos putting big hairy dogs in cages and telling you they're lions, you knew the world was going to hell in a hand basket anyway. But it's all good because the Mets, on the strength of their power from Marlon Byrd, Ike Davis, and Daniel Murphy (who not only hit home runs but hit moon landing shots) and Jon Niese's nine K's in six innings have now beaten San Diego two straight with a 5-2 win. Anthony Recker also had a good game, three hits and a walk to be exact. But he was able to have a good game because ... and get this ... John Buck's wife has finally gone into labor. This means that Buck is on his way home, and Travis d'Arnaud is on his way to San Diego to replace him temporarily ... which is step one toward replacing him permanently, except that he was supposed to be there Friday but for some reason couldn&...

Buck’s Wife In Labor, Leaves For NYC, D’Arnaud To Make Debut

John Buck is leaving for New York City after learning that his wife has gone into labor. This should pave the way for the debut of Mets catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud during this weekend series against the San Diego Padres. D’Arnaud is a California native so it should be doubly special for him. Anthony Recker will replace Buck in tonight’s starting lineup… Congratulations...

The Unstoppable Thor: Ten Strikeouts Over Five Shutout Innings For Syndergaard

Apparently, Noah Syndergaard was watching Zack Wheeler‘s start last night and he wanted to one-up him. Well, he didn’t strike out a dozen, but I think we’ll all take ten over five innings. Syndergaard has now strung together three straight outings of five shutout innings while allowing no more than three baserunners in each start. Take that in for a minute… Noah Syndergaard...

Wheeler’s Command Is Improving; Only One Walk Over His Last Two Starts

The legend of Zack Wheeler continues to grow as last night he joined some pretty impressive company… GREAT COMPANY: Zack Wheeler joins Pedro Martinez & Nolan Ryan as the only Mets pitchers ever to strikeout 12 batters in six innings or less. — Mets Merized Online (@MetsMerized) August 16, 2013 Wheeler set career highs Thursday with 12 strikeouts and 115 pitches, taking...

Very Likely Mets Will Retain Terry Collins As Manager

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, the Mets are still not tipping their hands on whether Terry Collins will remain the team’s manager beyond the 2013 season, but it is “widely expected” he will be given a new deal after this season. Last week, a team executive told the NY Post that the front office is very happy with the team’s performance since June 18 and that...

Wilmer Flores Improving And Could Be Back In Lineup This Weekend

Terry Collins told reporters in San Diego, that Wilmer Flores has continued to show improvement on his injured ankle and will avoid a trip to the DL which many feared would be the case. Team doctors have had Flores wearing a protective boot during the day to help further the healing process and it has helped the young infielder recover much quicker than anyone expected. Flores himself...

Good News, As It Looks Like Flores May Avoid The DL

Terry Collins told reporters in San Diego, that Wilmer Flores continues to improve and is wearing a walking boot during the day on his injured ankle. It now appears very likely he will avoid the disabled list. Last night, Flores hit a pinch hit single against the Dodgers, but was replaced by a pinch runner. So glad to hear he’s doing better and it would be great if he were able...

Mets’ Terry Collins Deservers To Stay

The firing of Philadelphia manager Charlie Manuel has put Terry Collins’ status with the New York Mets into the forefront. The sacking of Manuel demonstrates once again baseball is widely unfair. After a long playoff run, which included several trips to the World Series, followed by a run of injuries from Chase Utley to Ryan Howard to Roy Halladay, the Phillies are south of the...

Cecchini’s Four Hits Not Enough For Brooklyn In 1-0 Loss

Vermont 1, Brooklyn 0 Miller Diaz was once again brilliant from the mound in his six innings of work but in a losing effort, as the Cyclones were shutout by Vermont 1-0. Both pitchers were showing their best stuff with the game staying scoreless into the sixth inning. Brooklyn was unable to provide Diaz with any run support, but Gavin Cecchini was a perfect 4-for-4 extending...

d’Arnaud Debuts Tonight: The Puzzle Pieces Are Falling Into Place

Travis d’Arnaud is projected to start at catcher tonight for the New York Mets — it was a long time coming and a freak injury in his foot may have slowed down his progress, but we all knew it was inevitable. D’Arnaud was likely going to make his debut in September anyway, but with John Buck leaving the team while his wife (finally) delivers their next child, he’s getting...

Mets 4, Padres 1

Marlon Byrd lined a two-out double over a hesitant right-fielder Chris Denorfia's head in the eighth inning, Mets outfielders saved two runs with outstanding plays and New York snapped a three-game skid by beating the San Diego Padres 4-1 Thursday night. Zack Wheeler struck out a career-high 12 for New York. Eric Young Jr. saved a homer by leaping above the wall and knocking...

Late Runs Push 51s Over Bees, 6-4

Las Vegas 6, Salt Lake 4 The Las Vegas 51s scored two runs today in the top of the ninth inning for a 6-4 victory at host Salt Lake in the first game of a five-game series. With the win, the 51s stayed in a first place tie with Sacramento in the Pacific Southern Division. Sacramento beat Tucson today, 5-3. With the game tied at four, Eric Campbell singled with one out in the ninth...

D’Arnaud to remain Mets' main catcher

Travis D'Arnaud isn't going anywhere. The New York Mets plan to keep the rookie catcher and give him significant playing time even after John Buck returns from paternity leave, major-league sources tell FOX Sports. D'Arnaud, 24, made his major-league debut on Saturday, the same day the Mets placed Buck, their starting catcher, on the three-day paternity list. The team...

The Future Is Now As Mets Will Keep D’Arnaud As Their Primary Catcher

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports is reporting that Travis d’Arnaud will remain with the Mets when John Buck returns from his paternity leave on Tuesday. They key piece from the R.A. Dickey trade last offseason, collected two more walks today and is 0-4 in in his eight plate appearances, but none of that matters as the Mets have seen enough to decide that the future is now for their...
