I Am Warming To The Idea Of Gruden As Coach.

Posted October 15, 2012

Everyone knows I have made many calls for Andy Reid to be replaced, but I never wanted any retread coaches to get the job. I really didn't want the guy to be Gruden. The reason being that every place Gruden left was devoid of any talent upon his departure and those teams are still trying to get back to some form of respectability. Guys like Tim Brown and Jerry Rice just wouldn't go away under Gruden. He's also terrible at developing a young quarterback, because he lacks patience with them. Young guys just seem to waste on his roster. I was set mentally to say no thanks to Gruden until a friend reminded me of one important thing.

Gruden can win the big one! When it comes down to it that's what matters most. It's isn't about being good enough to compete, but not really being good enough to contend. It's not about having great young up and coming guys just waiting on the roster for their chance. It's about holding the Lombardi and the parade down Broad Street. Now in the 14th year of the Andy Reid "5 Year Plan" we as fans have become conditioned to think that "contending" equals Championships. We have been fooled into think Andy Reid has done something! We are lead to believe the Eagles can't survive without this guy as if Football was created by the big guy himself. We hear the same old stuff from him and think nobody can do it better despite the fact many people have. Now if Reid can't get the job done this season, it's time to hand the keys over to someone else.

Gruden got the Oakland Raiders a tuck rule away from the Super Bowl, and won the Bowl with the Buccaneers. Both of them with journeyman quarterbacks. Gruden is a offensive genius who could maybe get more out of Mike Vick than the current coaching staff can. At least Gruden wont play to Vick's weaknesses like our current coaching staff seems to want to. I believe Gruden could turn this contending team into a championship team. When he leaves we may not like the team as a whole, but players will be sporting rings and Philly will have their Bowl.
