Bulls guard Derrick Rose has come forward and admitted to being selfish. Rose took a lot of heat during the post-season when the Chicago franchise hinted he could be ready to make a return from his ACL injury. After the Bulls advanced from the 1st round, they faced the defending champion Miami Heat. Rose decided he was still not ready to return to the court, and sat out the series. The Heat went on to dispatch the depleted Bulls 4 games to 1. Chicago was dreaming of returning to the glory days, and seemingly became impatient with their star point guard. When will he be ready? Nobody really knows, not even Rose. According to these comments, nobody is going to pressure him back on the court before he is ready: “It was hard. One of the hardest things I’ve had to go through in my life,” Rose said of missing the season. “After surgery, when you start running … when you have an injury like this, there is stages you have to go through, I’m still going through my stages. I’m not done yet, but this is the most I’ve ever worked on my craft and the most focused I’ve ever been in my NBA career. “I’m not a selfish guy at all, but having this injury and going through what I had to go through and being smart, it’s something that I had to be selfish with. I couldn’t worry about anyone else but myself and my health.” A lot of comments from the Bulls and Rose suggested he could have returned for the playoffs, but instead decided to sit out. On one hand, I would not want to rush my star player back onto the floor after an ACL injury. When Rose is ready, he will be back on the court the same way he left. Not only does he want to prevent this injury from bothering him in the future, he wants to return playing at a high level. On the other hand, the patience is growing thin with fans of the Bulls. They want their team at full strength, and can’t stand seeing Rose “not being ready” anymore. I would rather have Rose come back at full strength rather than watching him get hurt again because he was pressured back onto the court. The longer the wait, the more restless the natives will be.
