Celtics Green ...a boston celtics blog.:
On Thursday night the Celtics faced the Knicks in their second meeting of the year. This marked Rajon Rondo's first game against the NY squad as he was suspended last game and also meant the rematch of KG vs Melo. This was the largest story line coming into the night as both teams emotions were high. The Celtics looked to return home and extinguish their four game losing streak yet Carmelo and the Knicks proved to be too tall a task. In a great game the Celtics fell short losing 89-86 the Knicks at home.
The Celtics and Knicks are an age old rivalry that continued tonight at the TD Garden. Both teams came into the night looking to make big statements. The Knicks came in looking for a revenge game as Garnett and the Celtics stole game one at MSG. The Celtics looked to stop the bleeding of a four game losing streak and get back on track.

Rajon Rondo once again had a great night with a triple-double consisting of 23 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. While his effort was solid, it proved to be not enough for a Celtics win. Paul Pierce had a semi-bounce back game going for 22 points on 6-15 shooting with 6 rebounds. The Truth was lights out in the first half finishing with 19 but couldn't get it together in the second half scoring just three points.
Kevin Garnett had another tough offensive night scoring just 8 points. Although he played very well defensively and also grabbed 12 rebounds. In crunch time, with the game hanging in the balance, KG had a wide open 19 foot jumper to tie the game but the shot wouldn't fall.

The Knicks were led by who else but Carmelo Anthony who had a game high 28 points on 11-28 shooting. The Celtics played tough defense on the small forward but clearly Melo was on a mission an looked for revenge after last games debacle. The Knicks also got large contributions from their bench in J.R. Smith and Amar'e Stoudemire. J.R. struggled with Avery Bradley guarding him shooting just 3-16 but still managed to contribute 9 points and 6 rebounds. Stat might have been the difference maker in the game going for 15 points and 9 rebounds. He also had a very timely tip-in that put the Knicks up but 3 with a minutes to go.
The Celtics bench was led by Jeff Green who had a decent night scoring 9 points on 4-7 shooting while grabbing 6 boards. Jared Sullinger played ok as well finishing with 7 and 3 rebounds due to foul trouble limiting him to 15 minutes for the game.
The Celtics will ship of to Atlanta to face the Hawks tomorrow night. They haven't had a must win more than ever. Tomorrow when they look to get their first win in six games and surely they need it for morale at least. Tune in at 7:30pm and for all things Celtics stay with Celtic Green throughout the day.

Old triple double king vs new triple double king.
Last night Rajon Rondo recorded his 4th triple double of the season. He's now got twice as many as anyone else; LeBron James and Jose Calderon (Seriously? Jose Calderon?) have two a piece. In last year's regular season Rondo had 6 triple doubles, while nobody else recorded more than one.
Over the past two seasons combined...

Rajon Rondo had 16 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds against the Hawks on Friday night. It was his third consecutive triple-double versus Atlanta. Only one NBA player had three straight triple- doubles against the same team in the 1980s (Magic Johnson did so vs. three teams in that...
The struggling Celtics dropped their fifth straight (and first to the Knicks in Boston since ’06) on Thursday night, but Rajon Rondo was still able to shine in more ways than one. As his teammates spent the majority of the game piling up bricks (or, in Paul Pierce’s case, dropping bricks on their toes), Rondo recorded his 27th career triple-double by scoring a team-high 23...
Throughout the Celtics latest losing streak, there seems to be a lot of reflection going on within the team's locker room. A few days ago it was Doc Rivers questioning how bad the team 'wants it' and threatening to get rid of players if the team doesn't start winning. Last night Paul Pierce questioned the team's mental toughness. Among those currently in a state...
The rumor spreading around after the Celtics defeated the Knicks back in New York was that Kevin Garnett told Carmelo his wife tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios. This provoked Melo to wait outside the team bus to confront Garnett, an act he was later suspended for.
That rumor was obviously hilarious and, true or not, it turned into a national story, and soon after, material items....

Was going to wait until tomorrow to post this, but the hell with it. I love this video from Golden Hoops. This is a short clip entitled “Kevin Garnett: The Love For the Game”. It has the perfect blend of video & audio to capture the intense emotion and unwavering spirit of the man known as The Big Ticket.

Kevin Garnett: 24 Points, 10 Rebounds
Kevin Garnett gave us a great performance tonight, and it was unfortunately wasted. He rebounded well, shot well, and was only slowed down by fouls/minutes. He got gassed at the end, and his last two fouls were stupid...

During Thursday night's Flyers game, the news came out that Sixers star Jrue Holiday has been selected to the NBA All-Star game. This will be Jrue's first NBA All-Star game. Holiday will play for the East squad, here is the lineup:
The bad blood between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett didn’t last long.
Last night the New York Knicks beat the Boston Celtics 89-86. After a verbal spat and a bus showdown with 20 something security guards on standby, desperate measures were put into place to ensure another Honey Nut Cheerio saga wouldn’t transpire.
However last night was the polar opposite.
BOSTON -- The first meeting between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett since their nasty encounter on Jan. 7 in New York turned into just another night of misery for the floundering Celtics. Anthony, suspended for a game for going out to the Boston bus after Garnett's alleged comments, scored 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the New York Knicks to a 89-86 victory...
No matter what was said between Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett during and after the last time the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics met, Anthony says the incident is behind him.
Thursday night's rematch in Boston simply is one between two struggling teams looking to right the ship.
On-court bickering led to technical fouls for both players in the final minutes of Boston...

The Celtics are in the midst of their worst losing streak (six straight) since Kevin Garnett joined the team in the 2007-08 season. As exhibited by their double-overtime loss to the Hawks on Friday night where they blew a 27-point lead, this team is finding new and creative ways to lose. The prevailing buzz states that the C’s have hit rock...
