Solid goaltending and a game-breaking moment from one of the top game breakers led the Lightning to victory. Steven Stamkos scored with 5:04 left in the third period while Ben Bishop stopped 25 shots to lead Tampa Bay to a 3-1 victory against Minnesota on Thursday at the Forum. Tyler Johnson and Sami Salo added an empty netter for the Lightning (5-2) which won for the fifth time in the past six games. Bishop picked up his his fifth consecutive victory. Josh Harding stopped 27 shots for Minnesota which received its only goal from Mikko Koivu. Johnson got the Lightning on the board first with a power play marker at 14:02 of the first period taking advantage of a Jason Pominville tripping call. Valtteri Filppula found the puck on his stick in the right circle and looked primed for a quick shot but caught Johnson across the ice to zip a pass through the slot area. Johnson took a split second to settle the puck down before whipping a wrist shot past a diving Harding for his second goal of the season. Tampa Bay had another power play chance later in the period when Radko Gudas delivered a textbook hip check on Kyle Brodziak along the boards at the blue line which Marco Scandella took exception to and came over and shoved Gudas resulting in an interference call on the Minnesota defenseman. But the Lightning failed to capitalize on the opportunity and came up empty on the next chance which came 1:59 into the second period. It was in that second that both goaltenders started to put on a show and Bishop was the first to be in the spotlight. Midway through the period the Wild started to pin Tampa Bay in the defensive zone and create some offensive chances. During a span of six seconds Scandella had a pair of shots followed by Jared Spurgeon and finally Mikko Koivu before Bishop was able to cover the loose puck as it squirted into the crease at 9:34. Less than 60 seconds later Bishop stopped Dany Heatley in close before robbing Mikael Granlund's rebound opportunity at 10:20.
